Happy New Year!

To everyone on the board, appreciate all you guys, and the fun discussions, to NCBuff for posting the NewsStand every day, rain or shine, while battling cancer, and to our mods, Troy, Nikki, and Matt, who are doing a great job! (despite such limited access to the football program.) Hope the upcoming year brings everyone good health, prosperity, great fun and laughs, NCAA success for both the men’s and women’s basketball teams, and a winning football season, to go along with all the drama, and the carnival atmosphere, we all know will accompany the program!

On a side note, I took my girlfriend’s 7yr-old grandson, (and I’m really, by far, his main grandpa too), who lives in Houston, to his first ever live basketball game yesterday, at the Events Center. He’s pretty much a nerd, (think Young Sheldon) and not too much into sports, other than skiing, where I’ve been his personal instructor since he started at age 3. Well, he had a great time at the game, asked a lot of good questions, learned a lot about b-ball, and thought it was very exciting, and loved the big win. He’s now hooked, and all-in on going to another one, whenever they are back up here. (Funny anecdote, in the second half, he asked me why the crowd kept yelling his name, Dean. I had to explain to him that the crowd wasn’t yelling “Dean” the were yelling “D” for defense.) We met up at the game with a friend of mine, who‘s a CU alum, and big fan, and his 11 yr-old son, and it was a fun New Years Eve day for all of us.

(He has always wanted to check out a Buffs football game live, primarily to see Ralphie run, but they are typically not up here during football season, due to school.)

Orange Bowl

Cool story here on UGA. Not one player decided to opt out. Smart said after 1 or 2 decided not to it was “contagious”. Guy can coach and recruit. Loaded coming back and reloaded with a huge HS class and a few phenomenal TP guys.

UGA was always going to roll in this one with all the guys getting drafted from FSU and Travis being out but it’s really cool to see UGA bringing everyone to the game.

My breakdown of the TV ratings this year - updated

I will be filling in more information as I get it sorted.

PLEASE READ:
These numbers are from the Nielson Ratings. So only games on Networks that belong to the Nielson Ratings System are listed. The ACC, SEC and PAC 12 do not belong to the system. Neither does CBSSN. Army, CUSA, MAC, MWC and select Navy games are on CBSSN so that means there are limited numbers on those. ESPN+ numbers are also not reflected in the Nielson Ratings, ESPN+ is where games from the Big 12 that would regularly be on a conference network are shown. Because the other 3 conference networks and ESPN+ is not listed I took games on BTN out of the Big Ten numbers when I did averages. All the numbers are for the regular season only and all game times listed are MST.

MBB- No ceiling for this team if healthy

We have a special team in MBB this year. Really bummed last night when i sat down and my stadium family told me DiSilva, Williams and Dak were all sitting. Cody still wearing a wrist brace, Disilva visably limping (but no boot). But we win going away, without coming close to playing a clean game. THis team is dominant and we are going to learn alot next week against UoA. This UW team beat Gonzaga and i was talking with some of their fans at halftime that couldnt believe that 2 of our 3 best players and 3 regulars were out of the lineup. THeir best bigman was also absent.

The expectations for this team should be very very high, A P 12 championship and the final 4 are not a reach as we check every box. Athletic, LOng, balanced scoring, good individual and team defense, good to great FT shooting although last night was not good, toughness, rebounding, share the ball attitude. UoA is a similar team so playing them at their place will be a great test. Stupid turnovers are the only consistent problem but that can be ironed out with some focus. I think DiSilva is likely not playing in AZ, but either way we will learn alot down there. I hope the Refs dont do what they typically do in Tucson, which is bend to the home crowd.

The next 3 months could be really fun as we await the FB season. This team has been laying in the weeds but not much longer i think.
