NCAA being sued by Tennessee and Virginia

The states of Tennessee and Virginia are suing NCAA over the restriction on NIL being used to induce players. Expect more states to join.

I hate where we are at but it is what it is. Now that we are here it needs to just be a free market at all times out in the open. It’s silly to pretend it isn’t happening anyways.

These lawsuits and public discourse to me are a huge positive. It will hasten along the split that needs to happen.

Yes - the current system favors a handful of schools (20 or 30 maybe). I don’t argue against the NCAA on this. So what? It’s a free market. Nothing ever works when you try to tell companies they are too big or their CEO makes too much. Don’t like it don’t give patronage to that company. Don’t like this level of ball then stop bankrupting yourself to compete in it and work with others to form a different version with different rules and caps.

The more of this stuff the faster it happens and that is good for all. Especially those not in the top group who can truly afford to participate in pay for play (hint - there isn’t anyone in the BIG XII who really can save maybe OSU and it’s a big maybe)

Get to know your Board-Mates

I recall a long time ago someone started a post like this and I thought it was interesting. Essentially, the idea was to share as much about yourself as you feel comfortable with the idea of giving your other board-mates some context behind some of your positions, ideas, etc. For instance, you may have certain political leanings based on your age, where you were born/raised, career, etc. Same can be said for thoughts on CFB, how players have changed, etc.

I'll start.

Hi, I'm Evan and I'm a Buffaholic
51 year old married man (wife is a rabid Michigan alum so that has been interesting)
CU Grad - spoiled rotten being in Boulder 90-94 and was buddies with a lot of the guys on the team over those years (holding on to the good ole days with a vice-grip)
I have two CU related tattoos - Ralphie and CU on my ankle and the Flatirons on my shoulder (I want more but my wife won't let me lol)
My license plate is COBUFF2 and get a lot of honks and "Go Buffs"
I am by FAR the biggest fan amongst my CU buddies so they use me as the CU almanac for questions that they may have
While at CU, was a door-man/bouncer at Potter's on Pearl Street but spent most of my time hanging at The Sink and Taylor's (RIP Taylor's South Western Chix Sandwich) - still go to The Sink AT LEAST twice whenever I'm in town.
I have donated to the AD since '95 and now both the AD and NIL collective
Born and raised in Los Angeles but my family is from the NY and Chicago areas and I resonate more with the "East Coast Mentality" - my professional sports teams are the Giants, Rangers, Mets and Knicks for that reason (lots of suffering all around)
2 Daughters - 17 years old waiting to figure out where she is going to college and 14 year old HS Freshman (both avid soccer players)
Practiced Law for a little over 15 years before I moved over to wealth management which I have been doing for over a decade
I travel a decent amount to meet clients - mostly the Seattle area but have built a nice little client-base in CO so I get to travel to CU 3-5 times a year and try to get 2-3 FB games in a year and maybe a BB game or two as well.
Besides the Buffs following other sports, in my free time I golf and do Krav Maga (I've slowed down a bit with numerous shoulder injuries, but my 17 year old daughter is a legit bad ass!)

Hope other people with share about themselves and we can get more personal relationships with each other in a good way.

Some reasons for optimism this fall

I know Mike Farrell is not a favorite on this board, but his 2 part piece examining last season and the progression of the program heading into season 2 of the Prime era is pretty accurate IMO and provides some basis for optimism going forward. I will say that I think he missed one thing in assessing needs and the TP additions -the lack of finding someone (yet) who can reach the %*@ing end zone on kickoffs. Yes, that drives me nuts 🤯 I jest (sort of) but overall I think this is a pretty good piece. 🦬

ASU transfer defensive lineman B.J. Green was the other visitor this week outside of Ju Ju Lewis this week, and the whispers right now point to the junior being the next commitment for the Buffs. Devin Rispress, CU's assistant director of player personnel posted that a commitment would be coming Monday but has since deleted but his Buff signal is still posted indicating an incoming commitment for the Buffs.

Green finished the 2023 season 39 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 6 sacks and 11 quarterback hurries.

The former walk-on from Georgia has been committed to Washington but opened up his recruitment after the departure of Kalen DeBoer. Ole Miss has been the other program involved before the trip to Boulder.

Official Game Thread: Colorado at Washington State

Buffs looking for the weekend sweep up in Washington against Wazzu today. Everyone available once again for the Buffs, good news as they face a WSU team that's coming off of a big win against Utah. Another note: Oregon is hosting Arizona today, so a chance for the Buffs to finish the day alone atop the Pac-12 (with a win and an Oregon loss).

Usual starters for CU:
KJ Simpson
J'Vonne Hadley
Cody Williams
Tristan da Silva
Eddie Lampkin

For Washington State:
Myles Rice
Jaylen Wells
Isaac Jones (Leading scorer: 15.8 PPG)
Andrej Jakimovski
Oscar Cluff

Current active roster

Is there any chance @Nikkieds or @Troy Finnegan we can get a current active roster leaving out TP guys who have shown interest but hadn’t enrolled? We are currently 13th out of 14 using rivals metrics in the BIG XIi. I’d like to look who we have and who the TP guys are and do some digging on stats, background, offers etc to start to build a little better picture of these rosters. If possible would be great. I really am not worried about who the TP guys who haven’t enrolled

OT - My Latest Personal Update 01-29-2024

Dear Amazing Supporters and Friends,

I hope this message finds you with a smile on your face and a skip in your step! It's time for a quick update on my journey, and let me tell you, the adventure continues!

So, picture this: I embarked on a trip to Florida, visited my sprightly 101-year-old father-in-law (who's living his best life in a nursing facility), and then faced a comedy of errors involving a hotel chair that decided to play a little trick on me. I must say, my acrobatic skills were impressive, but alas, the soreness in my neck, hip, and lower back was not part of the plan.

Now, just when I thought I had mastered the art of graceful falls, I found myself diagnosed with Covid. Yes, you heard it right – a plot twist that would make even the best screenwriters jealous. The post-trip fatigue hit hard, and suddenly I was coughing, sneezing, and feeling like I had run a marathon. But fear not, my friends, because I'm here to give you the lowdown on the latest chapter of this rollercoaster ride!

In the midst of my superhero-like recovery, I received news about Keytruda no longer being fully covered. Talk about adding a dramatic soundtrack to life's plot twists! The medical team at Atrium Wake Forest Baptist hospital, my trusty sidekicks, are doing their best to navigate the changes, but it seems even superheroes have to deal with bureaucratic challenges.

Now, onto the next episode – my upcoming February 5th appointment for a treatment that comes with a $3,600 price tag. Who knew fighting villains (read: cancer) could be so expensive? But fear not, because together, we can make a dent in this expense and keep the laughter flowing.

My medical team, being the cautious heroes they are, decided to postpone my January 31st infusion since Covid was still playing tag with my immune system. Smart move, right? Now, they've set their sights on February 5th for the big showdown, and I have no doubt we'll emerge victorious.

As for my rehab workout, art class, and leisurely strolls, they've been put on hold for now. But I'm channeling my inner optimist and finding joy in small, unexpected moments. Laughter truly is the best medicine, and with your support, we'll keep the positive vibes flowing.
Now, here's where you come in – drumroll, please! I'm reaching out for a bit of help to conquer this chapter of my adventure. If you're ready to join the League of Extraordinary Supporters, click the Link below to make a contribution to my GoFundMe campaign.

Here's how you can contribute:
1. Visit my GoFundMe page: https://gofund.me/d3d433d8
2. Click on the "Donate" button and follow the instructions to make a secure contribution.
3. Share my campaign on your social media accounts or with friends and family who may be interested in helping.
Remember, every bit helps, and your generosity will not only make a difference but also bring a smile to my face (and maybe a snort of laughter – you know, the good kind).

Thank you for being the amazing, uplifting force that you are. Let's tackle this mountain together, armed with laughter, love, and a dash of superhero strength!

Sending you all virtual hugs, high-fives, and a hearty laugh,
With humble gratitude,

Craig Brown
