How former Colorado players fared this season

With a handful of CU players entering the transfer portal last week, I thought it might be worth taking a look at how former Buffs did at their new homes this past season

Shendeur Throwing Late(ish)

Was in Boulder last week and walked through campus on the way back from the Hill around 8:30 p.m. or so and went by the indoor facility and heard some music and the lights were on so I peaked in through the windows. Shendeur was throwing WR/TE screens over and over and over (must have been dozens of throws in the few minutes I was stalking . . . yes, I am a 50 year old man fanboying at 20 year old.) Couldn't tell to whom he was throwing, but looked like it may have been Traore (TE) or Page (TE) based on the size and looks from a distance. Was really working on mechanics and getting the ball out fast. He seemed to get frustrated with himself if the made a throw that was not perfect, but he was just like a Jugs Machine throwing over and over.

I'm guessing this may be typical for a starting QB, but it was nice to see the work ethic away from the cameras, etc.

Visit recap: Arizona RB Jaedon Matthews recaps recent CU visit

Jaedon Matthews has seen his recruitment pick up so far this year, and Colorado was one of the schools that offered him back in January. He was able to get on campus for the first time last week, and Sean Lewis in particular left a strong impression on the 2024 recruit. Matthews plans to take visits to Vanderbilt, Wisconsin, Georgia Tech and Cal up next but CU definitely has given him a lot to think about. He racked up close to 1,000 all-purpose yards at Saguaro High in Scottsdale in the 2022 season and could be a nice weapon for Lewis and the rest of the offensive staff.

Here's a little excerpt from my chat with Matthews and you can read the full update at the link above.

"I can’t say enough about Coach Lewis. He was a standout to me. A real players coach with crazy, genuine enthusiasm and belief in what they do. The way he calls plays and sees the game was remarkable. Coach Flea was also real and gave critical feedback for the RB group."

Christian Gonzalez about to make some serious moolah

Mel Kiper 3rd mock

7. Las Vegas Raiders

Christian Gonzalez, CB, Oregon

In this scenario, the Raiders don't get any of the top four quarterbacks, forcing them to go with the best prospect available. They added the solid-but-unspectacular Jimmy Garoppolo in free agency, so it's not like they have a void under center as big as the Colts, Texans and Panthers do. They also have a veteran roster, and you could argue they should try to win now.

The player who can most help them win in 2023 is Gonzalez, who ran a blazing 4.38-second 40-yard dash at the combine, backing up what I saw on his 2022 tape. At 6-foot-1, he has outstanding ball skills and elite recovery speed. This is a clear need area for Las Vegas.

Do I wish he would've stayed? Absolutely. Do I blame him for leaving the worst team (and perhaps HC) in the country? Nope.
