He said a lot of great things about Sanders as a coach and man but called him and Colorado out for several things.

1. Kids aren’t furniture or luggage and it’s inappropriate to refer to them they way
2. Job one is to rebuild a team but in doing so you need to go out of your way to help those who you push out
3 should never have even been an issue with film. Good thing it’s corrected but raises question about who you are

Basically said time to look in the mirror. You can’t be all about kids and doing the right thing in speeches then call them luggage and furniture and not help them move on when you’re on the job.

Lauded him for the work he has done so far but said need to examine this and fix some of how kids are talked about and treated moving forward.

Much of the focus around Boulder this week has been spent on Deion Sanders and the transfer portal, but Travis Hunter appears to have landed a new set of wheels.

The Colorado defensive back has inked an NIL deal with Phil Long Ford of Chapel Hills, he announced on his Instagram page. The freshman appears to be sitting on top of a new Ford truck.

“I want to give a special thanks to Phil Long Ford of Chapel Hills for always going above and beyond with the car,” he wrote on Instagram.

A former On3 five-star plus+ prospect in the 2022 recruiting class, he stunned the recruiting world when he flipped from Florida State to Jackson State on National Signing Day. He’s now followed Coach Prime from the HBCU to the Pac-12.

In his first season of college football this past fall, he tallied 19 tackles with two interceptions and eight pass breakups. He had a touchdown catch and played cornerback in Saturday’s spring game, showing that Sanders plans to play him on both sides of the ball at Colorado.

The former No. 2 recruit in the country hasn’t wasted any time monetizing his name, image and likeness since arriving in college. He signed a multi-year deal with digital banking platform Greenwood back in July. Since then he has aligned with brands like Celsius Drink, the Michael Strahan Brand, Actively Black and SoHoodie.

Hunter used his commitment to Colorado as a moment to leverage his YouTube following, too. Back on February 1, he said he would make his commitment known when he reached 100,000 YouTube followers. He now has 148,000 subscribers, showing the test obviously worked

McNeill saw some action in Tennessee playing 72 snaps as a redshirt freshman last season, recording 3 tackles. A 3-star recruit out of Suwanee, Georgia in 2021, he was recruited as an offensive tackle, but later transitioned to a defensive tackle.

Per Ryan Sylvia from the VolReport:

As a Suwanee, Georgia native, McNeill's only power-five offers came from the Vols, Minnesota and Washington State.

Upon joining the program, McNeill was quickly switched to the defensive side of the football.

In 2021, McNeill earned a redshirt after appearing in just one game against South Alabama.

The following year, McNeill saw the field in six contests. In those games, he recorded three tackles. He also swatted a ball at the line of scrimmage in the season opener vs. Ball State.

McNeill now enters the portal with three years of eligibility remaining. At 6-foot-4 and 285 pounds, he has good size for an interior defensive lineman.

Travis Gray thought he had Sunday off. The day after Colorado football’s nationally televised, snowy spring game showcase, the offensive lineman was eating lunch at Olive Garden. He had a meeting with coach Deion Sanders scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday — until his phone buzzed with a text message from offensive line coach Bill O’Boyle.

That meeting had been moved up. It started in 30 minutes. An apologetic O’Boyle was waiting in the lobby of the team facility. As they made their way toward Sanders’ office, O’Boyle told him what was happening.

“He’s walking with me and said, ‘Hey buddy, you’re going to get cut today. I’m sorry to tell you this. I didn’t want you to hear it from Coach Prime. I wanted you to hear it from my mouth. I didn’t want to cut you, but we had to cut five offensive linemen, and you were the last one,’” Gray told The Athletic on Tuesday evening.

When Gray walked into Sanders’ office, his head was down. Then he looked up.

“I was like, ‘Oh, God.’ I saw the mean mug in his face,” Gray said. “He told me, ‘You’re 6-foot-8, 320 pounds. I know in my heart of hearts a school is going to pick you up in the portal when you enter. Make your weaknesses your strengths and keep progressing. I hope you have a great future, it just won’t be here at the University of Colorado.’”

Colorado is one of the first schools to offer James Madison grad transfer DL Isaac Ukwu today just a couple hours after he entered the transfer portal. He is a monster and has had two very good seasons after dealing with some injury problems early in his career. Over the last two seasons he has collected 83 tackles, 27 tackles for loss and 16.5 sacks.

He is already starting to gain traction with several programs offering in the last few hours including Ole Miss, Cal, Kansas, South Florida and Auburn.

I don’t know what the practice is with this, but it’s not such a great look. I understand that we’ve excommunicated some players as part of this process, but I would hope it’s done with class and respect for the departing players.

I have to say I am thrilled with the way HCDS has transformed the roster. He walked into a team that was out of shape, weak, unmotivated, with no spark albeit maybe with some talent. THe number 1 thing he had to do was change the culture from a "free lunch" culture to a "no free lunch" culture and everyone on the existing roster was deemed as part of the problem. Had to happen and I for one am thrilled the transfer portal is available to complete the task quickly.

SOme guys leaving may well have talent to play at the next level and they may have just gotten the wake up call they needed to have a chance. Good luck to them.

One of the two transferring kids who wanted practice film from 2022 (they didn’t play in games) has responded to all the attention.
I’m paraphrasing but his comment was he wished he hadn’t sent his message because it put a bad light on himself and his coach. He didn’t want to put a bad light on Sanders.

It’s good to see a young man admit he made a mistake I think. I also understand better now why he wants practice footage since he never played in a game.

I don’t know how I would find the data but I’d be curious how the overall numbers of high school recruits this YTD compares to most years at the end of April.
Is the portal and all the attention teams are paying to it slowing down recruiting of HS until the final portal closes?

I was just looking through different schools classes and commits and the numbers seem very low for this time of year. Bama with 6, Florida with 7, etc. Normally they fill early and get on with business simply rounding the class out at the end. I have to believe teams are putting some recruits on hold until they know who is coming and going through the portal.

At least it feels that way

Colorado has added a commitment from Old Dominion defensive lineman Chazz Wallace today. The junior-to-be from Maryland has 45 career tackles to go with 3 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. He'll have two seasons of remaining eligibility with the Buffs. Louisville and Arizona State had been other programs in the mix, but the CU staff was able to earn his pledge after getting him on campus over the weekend.

A lot has happened since the spring game, but I wanted to highlight some of the standouts of this spring. Let me know who impressed you guys during the spring game and, or throughout the spring!

Florida State senior LB Brendan Gant came into college at the safety position, but then later transitioned to linebacker his junior season. He played in 31 contests as a safety and last season he recorded 33 tackles. 1.5 TFL, 1 sack and 1 PBU as a LB. He's a quality, versatile piece sure to add further depth to a room that already has LaVonta Bentley (Clemson) and Demouy Kennedy (Alabama).

Keeping in mind that Shedeur will not be around forever, I tried to observe what I could about young QB Staub. He has yet to attend his senior prom, but nonetheless seemed quite poised, confident and athletic. While we have a lot to learn about both the offense and this quarterback, he reminds me Matt Corral (Ole Miss), Jaren Hall (BYU) or even a young McCarthy (Michigan). He’s listed at 6’1”, so, he might wind up bit taller as he matures. Albeit a very limited viewing time, but I liked what I saw in terms of him fitting this new offense.

It’s very early, but CU will likely have better QB options going forward than anything they’ve had for many years.
