OT: Why arent we talking about the Avs

While the nuggets struggled against a bad and old LA team then started 0-2 against a good Wolves team the Avs have just quietly been getting the job done. Great come from behind win last night. I thought maybe we were seeing another series where we were overmatched but that showed perserverance. Lets keep it giong.

Now I just need DU to do the improbable in LAX so @BuffaLaw8487 and I can watch the finals together and celebrate

OT NBC: Sports' value at upfronts is greater than ever

Advertisers love live sports, as they are one of the few things broadcasted that are DVR proof. The upfronts is where the networks tell affiliates what programming will be available.

That part of this article:

>This week's Big Get on the SBJ Sports Media Podcast in Cindy Brunson. The longtime ESPN anchor, now the voice of the Phoenix Mercury, dishes on all things WNBA as the league gets set for a historic season. Check out the pod when it drops on Wednesday morning.

NBC seeing 'strong' demand for sports ahead of annual upfront:

As upfront season gets underway, media companies are seeing more interest in sports than ever.

The major media companies expect to see 40% of upfront volume going toward sports, according to Peter Lazarus, NBC Sports’ EVP/advertising sales and partnerships. That’s up from around 25% over the last seven years, and Lazarus expects that market share to reach 50% within the next two years.

NBCUniversal kicks off the week next Monday from Radio City Music Hall, and the company is already 95% sold out across all its properties in the second and third quarter. It’s also coming off a sold-out Kentucky Derby (that event happened to have its best audience since 1989, albeit with the help of out-of-home viewing and streaming).

“Demand is strong. Conversations are strong. We’re seeing more and more people move into sports,” said Lazarus. “As we march toward the upfront, we see all the narratives being about live events -- big-time sporting events -- all the things we’ve been talking about, but it seems to be amplified right now. Sports is the only place to reach big, live audiences and hit those reach numbers with any immediacy, and brands seem to be prioritizing this in ways we haven’t seen before.”

This includes categories that have traditionally shied away from big sports. “We’re seeing more female brands using sports as a vehicle, and we think that will continue to grow. It’s not only a movement in women’s sports -- it’s women consuming sports,” said Lazarus.

That includes the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, which Lazarus said will have over 50% of its broadcast be women’s sports.

“We have Big Ten basketball, and we were really proud to have Caitlin Clark’s record-breaking game on Peacock, which drove almost 1 million viewers,” added Lazarus. “We’re starting to have this great roster of women’s sports, and we use our platform On Her Turf, and you’re going to see that come to life again, both in the Olympics and beyond.”

Peacock will also play a large role in the upfront, which Lazarus described as a “huge differentiator.”

“We’re seeing our share of live viewing, things like ‘Sunday Night Football,’ double as a whole,” he said. “We’ve seen Peacock grow almost 5x what it was, and a lot of that’s attributable to our exclusive [NFL] game.”<

CBS Sports: Big 12 spring overreactions

Colorado
The defensive front will be nasty: The Buffaloes were aggressive in the transfer portal for the second straight year. This time, Colorado hit on some sure things defensively. Defensive ends Dayon Hayes and Rayyan Buell ranked among the best overall players in the post-spring window. B.J. Green was a major pickup early. Deion Sanders augmented the proven commodities with some high-upside plays in LSU's Quency Wiggins and Alabama's Anquin Barnes. The ace in the hole is Houston transfer Chidozie Nwankwo, one of the more underrated defensive linemen in the sport over the past two seasons. Questions remain across the roster, but Colorado should be dramatically improved on defense if the unit blends well.

OT: Question for Track people

I was watching the Olympic Relay Qualifying this weekend on Peacock. 12 countries qualified at the event and then they fill in the other 2 thru the world rankings. Since 16 or higher was the number they kept talking about the US was going to likely be qualified anyway, but they qualified thru this meet. The US 4X400 Mixed, 4X100 men's and women's and the women's 4X400 won the meet. The 4X400 men's won the qualifying heat they were in, but got DQ'ed as one of the runners moved out of the spot he was place by the judge when the field was 200 meters away. They had to do a second qualifying race on Day 2, so was not in the final.

Okay now for my question. The 100 meters runners had white tape they placed on the track after measuring a distance going heel/toe from as spot on what looked like was the exterior lane line. What was they measuring? The handoff zone is already marked on the track, so that was not it.

Thanks if someone knows.

OT - My Latest Cancer Update

Hey there, fellow inhabitants of this crazy planet! NCBUFF here, accompanied by Oliver, the self-proclaimed Master Feline of the Universe.

So, picture this: I'm on my 82nd lap around the sun, aiming for more laps if the creek don’t rise and ruin the party. But wait, hold onto your hats, because here comes the plot twist! My blood tests recently had me sweating bullets, thinking I might have to say goodbye to my Keytruda lifeline. Turns out, my kidneys are acting like they're auditioning for a trampoline show, bouncing all over the place with their levels. Apparently, I've got 45% kidney damage, thanks to a chemo cocktail from way back when. Who knew chemo could be so rude?

Now, instead of swirling wine like a pro, I'm chugging water like it's the latest health craze. It's like a sommelier's worst nightmare, but hey, I'll take it over kidney damage any day! And speaking of unexpected talents, I've become a regular at the acupuncture clinic, trying to keep my anxiety, fatigue, and rogue kidneys in check. Who knew poking needles could be so therapeutic?

But wait, there's more! My swallowing abilities decided to go on vacation without me, leaving me to choke on food like a newbie at a hot dog eating contest. Cue the panic! Thankfully, a Speech Pathologist is riding to the rescue, and I'm seeing them faster than you can say "Heimlich maneuver."

In the midst of all this chaos, art has become my saving grace. I'm gearing up for a gallery event, ready to show off my creations like a proud parent at a talent show.

Oh, and did I mention Oliver, my furry sidekick? He's been a bit feisty lately, probably because I'm smelling like all kinds of funky with my wonky blood values. Cats, am I right? One minute they're cuddling, the next they're treating your hand like a chew toy.

Now, onto the less glamorous part: medical bills. They're piling up faster than I can say "ouch," and it's like playing a never-ending game of financial whack-a-mole. If you've got a spare dollar or two rattling around in your pocket, consider tossing it my way. Every little bit helps, and I promise to shower you with gratitude that'll warm your heart faster than a microwave burrito. My current unpaid copays balance is $4,750. WOW!

Thanks for being awesome, folks. Your support means the world to me, Oliver, and my ever-dwindling bank account.

Blessings, Craig (NCBUFF)
