Dylan Edwards

Hopefully no one freaked out seeing his name like he's injured or something, but after the first 3 games, 2 things are very clear:

1. Kid can take it to the house anytime he touches the ball; and

2. He is a big liability when he is on the field and the ball is not in his hands.

He simply cannot block at his size. He got run the hell over in both the NU and CSU game when trying to block and wasn't able to even effectively chip to slow down the rushers. He is listed at 170 lbs and, even though he may have impressive squat numbers for his size, he can't stand in there and provide any protection on blitzes, etc.

Until the OL becomes at least competent, perhaps spit him out wide or in the slot and use him more like a WR or use more split-backs with a bigger back like Smoke, Hank, Wilkerson, McCaskell etc. to help pick up the rush and let Dylan come out of the backfield after he tries to chip, etc.?

He's too dynamic to not have on the field, but just can't block at his size.

Thoughts?

Shedeur vs Nix

Ok, so I think one of the biggest reasons we are 3-0 is our QB has been better than the other teams QB in all 3 of our games. So what does everyone think? Is Shedeur Sanders better than Bo Nix? I think that Shedeur reads defenses better, is overall more poised, and is a more accurate passer. However I give Nix the nod at athleticism and quickness - especially since I think Shedeur is being told not to subject himself to hits. And Nix is in his 6th year I think - so more experienced. Overall I would rather have Shedeur leading my offense at the 2 yr line with 2 min to go (like that ever happens…). Thoughts??

After digesting the game a bit and thinking about things, watching some tape....

1. Our D is gonna give up yards and points all year - no way around it. Nub game will probably be an anomaly due to their (lack of) QB pass game.
2. Our O is gonna be 90% pass 1st all year. The quick stuff to the outside is just an extension of the run game. Sometimes you get 1yd, sometimes 4, sometimes 7. Just the way it is. SS has pre-snap options for this to the wide side and boundary he just needs to pick the correct side to attack.
3. For as average as Wells was a C, we missed him vs CSU. The frosh kid from Creek struggled. His snaps were slow, low, and probably caused some timing and/or rhythm issues. He wasnt ready to play meaningful crucial snaps. CSU was able to push the middle of the OL back at times. Sanders did not have adequate time to view the field and receivers did not have time to work routes, especially down the field.
4. CSU gameplan was to disrupt the flow - the fake injuries, jawing, and antics were all meant to get in the heads of CU. It worked.
5. We looked way better vs TCU and NU than we did Saturday. We were sloppy and out of sort. I also think we took them lightly, saw the line, and thought we could sleepwalk thru it. Another example of this is nothing more than a Rammie superbowl.
6. We added another weapon for teams to account for - Harrison. CSU had 0 answer for him. Now teams have to identify him, Edwards, Horn, and Weaver.
7. I quietly wondered about Hunter playing so much O. He is invaluable as an island corner. Now we are without him for what appears to be multiple weeks. Breedlove did ok in reserve but he isnt Hunter.

I do not think we are as bad as we showed Saturday. All the outside distractions and leadup to the game showed this team has some real maturing to do. They learned to win with their backs against the wall trailing by 11 in the 4th.

Can Michael Harrison be the impact player Colorado needs at tight end?

The walk-on junior might be the closest thing CU has to an answer at a huge question mark of a position. I also delved into the numbers of how often tight ends were incorporated as pass-catchers in Sean Lewis' final three seasons at Kent State

Troy Finnegan joins the CU Sports Report team!

Exciting announcement! We've brought on my good friend and CU graduate @Troy Finnegan to the team. He's coming fresh off the US Open and he'll be reporting alongside with me all season!

Here's his first article for the site on Shilo Sanders:

Tom Brady/Shedeur and the Rolls Royce

A fun read. Sounds like Deion needs to spend a little time telling Shedeur some of the NFL "riches to rags" horror stories about guys that had it all and ended up bankrupt. Then maybe give him the Shaquille O'Neal "WE'RE not rich, I'M rich" talk to let him know not to count on dad as a safety net ... except it seems like Shedeur is rich too, but ... see point one.

Our new contributor Troy Finnegan has a story on Shilo Sanders' turn in the spotlight

Since losing Craig Meyer before the season to a full-time job -- after helping to anchor our coverage this past year -- Nikki has helpd us find more help for the fall and recruited Troy Finnegan.

I'm going to let Troy introduce himself further, but here is his first story as he writes on Shilo Sanders' turn in the spotlight Saturday night:
