Spring Workout Vids

Has anyone been watching the vids that Jr. posts of training/work outs? Besides the typical fluff/hype around "Team Prime", some fun and interesting stuff. Just a few of my observations from the vids (again, limited knowledge and just my opinion on what I see from the vids):

  • The new OL additions have A LOT of personality - lots of Mayers, Benson, Walker - seem to work hard but also are personable - seem to move well and are athletic;
  • Seaton is huge and moves pretty damn well in drills (not showing any blocking drills, etc., just S/C) - seems to be a hard worker and all in;
  • Hunter is a clown. So much personality and puts in work, but can be distracting with his goofiness while the team is working hard - looks like he takes for granted how naturally talented he is and that maybe other teammates need to focus;
  • Jimmy Horn seems to be a little lack-luster. Looks complacent and "been there done that" opposed to being as intense as he should be - really love Jimmy so hope it's just the way the vids are showing and that he is hungry and shows up big next year;
  • Nwankwo is an absolute UNIT! He may be short, but I think he is as wide as he is tall and strong as an f'n bull. Should really clog the middle of the LOS and let the LBs make some tackles. Also super personable and fun. Great guy around the team;
  • Omarion Miller should be a monster this year. He is big, strong, works hard and just a specimen. Also seems like a great kid;
  • Sticking to WR, I would expect there to be quite a few going into the TP after Spring Ball. Too many bodies and many do not stick out;
  • Edwards is still small, but looks thicker and stouter. Definitely keeping up the hard work as one would expect from him.

  • Obviously, the access that Jr. gets is more than most get to see, so I have ZERO clue about the tone of these early spring S/C sessions for other programs, but from the vids, a few overall themes stick out:
    • Quite a few players going through the motions. You can see that they are half-assing drills/reps and looking around to see if they are getting away with it. This is on-field S/C drills not the weight room;
    • Too many times that all of the players need to redo drills because a few are not focused and screwing up. S/C has to keep reminding them that they are a 4-8 team and they don't look like they want it. Some drills that require timing and focus that would seem to translate to gameday discipline (like off-sides, false starts, remembering assignments, etc.);
    • Seems like a lot of grab-ass and playing around opposed to hardcore focus;
    • Most of the vids in the in the weight room focus on the big boys on the OL/DL. I'm no expert, but they seem to be putting up good number and are very into it and encouraging each other. Lots of love and motivation between the biggies lifting;
    • Prime not around much - shows up here and there to yell instructions during some drills or chat to the camera - ZERO clue how many HC are around or involved at this point (have shown just S/C and not plays, FB drills, etc.);
    • Only vid I saw of any throwing drills was a few minutes showing Shedeur and Taylor throwing short quick passes (working with Shedeur's personal QB coach, not anyone on the staff.) Not much to report except that Taylor's mechanics are atrocious and looks like a tall WR that is just trying to throw a FB around. Lots of work for him if he is ever expected to see the field down the line other than maybe a wild-cat for his running ability, etc.;
    • In all, the S/C staff and Prime (when he's there) point out that there are too many players that are not all-in and need to amp it up or leave the team for players who are all-in (this could all be typical coach-speak, but there are definitely players that look like they are just trying to squeak by and not put in the S/C work.

  • For those that didn't see the vid with the Marines leading the S/C drills, it's pretty impressive. As most would imagine, they are an impressive bunch. I think many of the players had a wake up call with how conditioned and bad-ass those guys/gals are. IMO, there were too many players that were not taking it seriously, were joking around too much etc., but was overall a pretty cool experience to watch.
*AGAIN - just my observations/opinion from the vids that have been posted and may be typical across CFB programs at this point in the season. There is obviously much more that is not shown so much of this could be waaaaay off, but thought I'd see if anyone was watching and picking up what I am seeing or wanted to add anything.

Big game against UCLA

I’m not ready to call the season yet. The tourney is a long shot but that’s why we watch. These next two road games have traditionally been brutal but neither California school is better than us. Not this year.
I’m on the Tad train out of Boulder with everyone else but man I would love to see him prove us wrong, have the guys fired up, and bring home a win against UCLA and then USC

KU at TT

The #23 Red Raiders have really taken to the #6 Jayhawks tonight and lead 63-43 with 5m left in the game. TT is now 18-6 (7-4) and KU is 19-6 (7-5).
Bill self just got tossed (on purpose) as the crowd chants "overrated".
Man, Lubbock will not be an easy place to play and they have a beautiful new state-of-the-art facility (15k) they opened a few years ago.
TT hired Grant McCasland from North Texas State where he was 211-89 in 6 years. and he looks to be a good hire for the RR's.
McCaslin is a disciple of Baylor's Scott Drew.

Way too early top 25

Some of these look more like rewards for last year than a realistic look at this year. I always enjoy these though. It’s fun to see how the year ends compared to the way too early predictions.

BIG XII well represented actually. Only 2 in a position to make a playoff spot and one would get knocked off but we have 5 teams in here

Official Game Thread: Colorado vs No. 8 Arizona

The one we've all been waiting for! Feels like a make or break game for CU's tournament chances with just one (very tenuous) Quad 1 win on the resume at the moment. Buffs putting their 13-0 record at home on the line against Arizona. Wildcats coming off of a triple OT battle with Utah on Thursday night.

Injury note: Luke O'Brien (ankle) is warming up with a brace on, so appears he will suit up. Also dressed on Thursday but didn't play, so we'll see.

Starters for CU:
KJ Simpson
J'Vonne Hadley
Cody Williams
Tristan da Silva
Eddie Lampkin Jr.

For Arizona:
Kylan Boswell
Caleb Love (Leading scorer: 18.9 PPG; 25.2 PPG in Pac-12 road games)
Pelle Larsson
Keshad Johnson
Oumar Ballo

BIG XII 24/25 results

This keeps getting into different threads due to good discussions. Thought I’d put this hear so we have it as we close in on the season and throughout. I like to see how people change as the team wins or loses.

I looked last night while hanging out with friends who are all Buff donors and ticket holders during the Super Bowl. Most of the night was about college football and specifically the Buffs. No one there was an NFL guy except playoffs and Super Bowl get togethers.

Over Under we found right now is 4.5. I was kind of surprised it wasn’t 5.5 given the optimism of CU fans. I think we all agreed it’s finally a year the over feels really good if you can get 4.5. Most said 5-8 wins. Consensus was 6-7 is probably most accurate. It’s where I land.

How about the rest of you

Super Bowl Thread

I know some of you could give a s**t about the game but I found this pretty dang cool so I will start with this.
ESPN's Post Season Countdown did a great piece on Steve McMichael, the great DL for the 86 Bears. He is suffering from ALS and this giant of a man is now just a shell of himself. Man, his wife Misty is one bad ass and strong woman and they were just informed that he will inducted into the Pro Football HOF this summer. Tear jerker moment for Rex Ryan who was around when his dad Buddy was the DC for that great Bears team. Sam Ponder and Randy Moss were both pretty emotional about it too. Just a moving story and since McMichael is obviously incompacitated, but can comprehend things just fine cracked one helluva smile when Richard Dent called and gave them the news. Good things still do happen in this world.

Angel Lopez is the newest 2024 commit for Colorado. He announced his decision earlier tonight, and he'll join the Buffs as a preferred walk-on player. The 6-foot-1, 165-pound defensive back played at Gadsden County High in Havana, Florida. Lopez finished the season with 18 tackles, 9 passes defensed, 2 interceptions (credited on MaxPreps but more show up on his senior film) and a tackle for loss.

Watching his film, he has some good ball skills and good size for a cornerback as well. For now he's coming in to add some depth, and the staff can see where it goes from there. I like his instincts, and there's always a chance someone like him gets an opportunity down the line.
