Preparing for the future of college football

This is why so many think private equity and direct corporate sponsorship/ ownership is coming as teams decouple from colleges for legal reasons. Going to get very expensive to pay players and it won’t be from NIL with collective bargaining in play.

Wonder who else is starting to do the same.

ARTICLE: CU defense taking it slow, building foundation under Robert Livingston

Story on the CU defense and the approach they’re taking this spring under Robert Livingston:

Interesting Portal article

I would really like to read the full study and am looking for it. Again, just one study, but looks interesting none the less. Ive been on the hunt for the roster changes " of half of everyone in teh top 25's 2023 roster transferring out". I have yet to be able to find this and in fact a roster by roster look says that it isnt even 1/4 of those rosters. This is not shocking but I did read a lot of really cool articles. Lots of winners and losers. The guys at the top predicatbly - lost mostly non starters and gained some key pieces. The guys in the middle not so good. The guys with losing records have more churn and lost both starters and non starters and gained mostly backups or guys yet to play. So far no shock and most of the data has had to be tracked down throgh fan sites of schools adn articles and blogs. This one just caught my attention becuase I love Money Ball and how statistics can be applied to anything in life

The Buffs add another key piece as Ohio State running back Dallan Hayden announces his commitment to the program following a visit to Boulder. The Memphis native had an impressive freshman season rushing for 553 yards and 5 touchdowns in 2022 but was limited last season and ended up with just 110 yards and a touchdown in 3 games on 19 carries.

He's currently rated as a four-star transfer and No. 126 overall by Rivals. He is the first four-star transfer addition to join the Buffs this offseason that is not either on the offensive or defensive line.

The expanded CFP/moving of bowls could affect Army/Navy

This is mostly about the game's exclusive window of being the stand alone D1A game on that date (the second Saturday in December):

The CFP’s expansion from four to 12 teams starting this fall has triggered two conversations, both of which could impact Army-Navy:

• Bowl Season officials and their TV partner, ESPN, are exploring moving up the start of bowl games to the second weekend of December to free up television windows for the four first-round playoff games scheduled for the third weekend of December.

• CFP leaders are examining how to consider a game (Army-Navy) that kicks off six days after CFP selections are made when the new format allots an automatic spot for the highest-ranked Group of Five champion.

“It’s tricky. I don’t envy the decision-makers,” said Mike Buddie, the Army athletic director who on Feb. 16 sent a letter to the CFP Management Committee about the situation. “I’m a realist. I understand there’s a lot of money and a lot of games to be played, but I still think Army-Navy transcends the sport of college football and has for decades.”
However, the game could soon get competition from the relocation of bowl games.

During last year’s opening day of Bowl Season, Saturday Dec. 16, seven bowls were played. On that day this year, Saturday Dec. 21, three first-round playoff games are scheduled to kickoff, with a fourth played on the preceding Friday.

Nick Carparelli, executive director of Bowl Season, confirmed to Yahoo Sports that the organization is exploring shifting at least some of those bowls up a week to expand television windows and avoid TV conflicts with playoff games. Final decisions likely rest with ESPN, owner and rights holder to the majority of bowl games.

OT: Nebraska looking to combine Lincoln and Omaha campuses

In hopes to regain AAU accreditation. They are worried the Big Ten might decided to kick them out over it. They were an AAU school when they joined, but lost it a few months later. One thing I have respected about the BIg Ten over the years is they want to be both an academic and athletic association of schools.

G5 playoff

And the drum beat gets louder. All the stuff the talking heads have laid out for many years and the coaches and admin drop hints on seems to be happening.

I’d be all for this but it’s a massive undertaking and can’t imagine it happens before the split of P2/4 from college ball to its own entity. There would be more money for some G5 teams but as a whole, at first, I think it could be less.
