This Week’s Message

I know CP he’s waiting for divine intervention, but what do you think should be the message this week? I think it should be something around paying attention to the details, the little things. I thought we played a sloppy game against Nebraska but got away with it because they’re not very good. A little concerned about starting a true freshman at center v CSU.

Coach Prime isn't the only one

"You've got to get the right people on the bus. You've got to get them in the right seats, and you've got to get the wrong people off the bus. Because mediocre people don't like high achievers and high achievers don't like mediocre people. And if you let those two things coexist in your organization, you're never going to have any togetherness. Because there will always be somebody looking over their shoulder saying, "I have to do something and that person over there doesn't have to do it, or refuses to do it, or doesn't do it." So, that respect and trust I talked about, it's not going to exist. So you think you're doing yourself a favor by not making changes, and not doing things that you need to do."

Coach Nick Saban

More Random Thoughts

1) I'm a Chicago White Sox fan (which is like the opening line when an Alcoholic speaks to AA). Admittedly that means I like pain and suffering with my baseball - since the White Sox win the World Series every 88 years. In the early 90s there was a confrontation at the plate between Sox catcher Carlton Fisk and Yankees leadoff hitter Deion Sanders. In the 1st inning Sanders had hit a popup just behind 2nd base. Seeing that it was going to be easily caught Sanders stopped running toward 1st base and headed for the dugout. Fisk stared him down and yelled after him to run out every hit. When Sanders came up again in the 3rd - Fisk was still on him - according to Fisk - Sanders said - "Slavery is over." Fisk popped up threw his mask off and got in Deion's face and chewed him out - causing the benches to clear. No fight - order was restored. It occurs to me that Coach Prime - has taken the Fisk role with his players - demanding that they run out everty play and to never give up on a play. Personal growth moment for Sanders? Maybe.

2) @OhioBuffs gave a brilliant description of the Lewis offense and the Buff's weaknesses in it for the run game - in another thread. Ohio made the point that the middle of the Buffs Oline has been the breakdown point for the effectiveness of the run game. He's certainly correct. I will point out that Bam has been playing injured - Tyler Brown was expected to start at RG and practiced that way until his eligibility became and issue. Bailey - has been great in pass pro, but lacks the weight to anchor in a way that would move DL out of the way. Landon Bedee has been in there lately, but certainly no continuity has been established in the middle as of yet.

3) Dollars to doughnuts - Travis Hunter gets to score TDs in the game against the Rammies.

4) This Coach Prime sensation reminds me a little bit about the hurricane of media interest when Tim Tebow started games for the Broncos - and the Broncos won games in so many improbable ways.

5) The interest in the Buffs continues to build geometrically - it is now hard to imagine what is going to take the air out of the bubble - as surely that will happen sometime.

6) I can't imagine Coach Prime moving to the NFL. Can anyone visualize Prime working his motivational techniques in an NFL Lockeroom? That won't work in the NFL - they have professional contracts. There will be a big difference between the quality of the transfer portal and NFL street free agents. Salary Cap>???

7) The only Pac12 team that matches up really well to beat the Buffs - Is Oregon State - best defense in the conference and best run game. All the other teams have holes in their defenses - which will make the Buffs games with them boat races.

8) One of the things I'm most excited about is watching the Buffs continue to get better as the season goes no - the coaching is showing a direct effect on the team's play between games.

Sanders approach to recruiting.....

He said somewhere back when that ideally he wanted 40% undergrad xfer, 40% grad xfer, and 20%hs in his classes. I think, but cannot confirm, is how he did it a JSU.

Right now we have a relatively light senior class committed to us from 2024 HS kids with the least amount committed in the pac. And we are only in yr1 of his regime. I imagine things are fluid. I wonder if he is waiting on going hard in earnest at the 24 HS class to wait and see how the rest of the year progresses to evaluate needs heading into the 24 season for portal kids, underclass and grad xfer.

With the amount of HS kids out there on social media buzzing on the buffs, I wonder if he re-thinks this or if each cycle will look a bit different on our needs (who leaves via graduation or portal or retirement) than the 40-40-20 stated above.

Just some things to think about.

Scouting the opponent: CSU making a change at QB ahead of Saturday

This Saturday should be another memorable day in Boulder as multiple national media entities will be scattered around campus.

Between the hashes, the Buffs are going into this matchup with an upper hand, but the Rams have some resources to potentially make it an interesting game.

CU's defense improving and ready to capitalize against CSU

Colorado’s defense needed a boost after playing like “garbage” against TCU, as head coach Deion Sanders described on Sept. 5, and Nebraska’s offense offered an opportunity to do just that.
