We got a high quality (although small) HS class for early signing (I'm guessing we add a few more between now and February, but not many.) We know we will lose some players to the TP as well as graduation and the draft. While we have some young guys in the wings, would love to add the following from the TP:
QB 1 - Upperclassman that could potentially bridge the gap with Lewis. Don't think there is a QB currently on the team that can do that.
RB 1- Would love to land a legit stud RB. Guys we have a middle of the pack IMO . . . good, but not great.
CB 2-3- Have some good young bloods in Hood, McKinney and Hardge (maybe Stoutmire but may be a safety for good), but we could use one or two guys with experience (saw a lot of talk about the FAU CB that entered the portal.)
S 2-3 - really need to get this position some depth. Losing CSC hurts from both production and leadership. Would love to add someone with experience next to Stoutmire and for depth.
DL 2-3 - we loose some quality with Green, Nwankwo and Cokes, but still have a lot of good upperclassmen, some young potential in the wings and some good HS recruits. Still need a few mature guys that have had success that we can plug in.
LB - 3-4 - this is a pretty grim spot for depth and experience. Both Bentley and Hill-Green were very good in the middle and we really don't have many options left on the team. Woods and Brown should not be legit P4 starters (if they are still on the team and don't hit the TP), and everyone else is unproven or really more of a ST contributor. Need to get some legit run-thumpers and guys that can cover TEs in the middle of the field.
OT - 3-4 - The OL did improve, but is still not good. We know we have our LT and most likely C for the next few years, but the other 3 spots are wide open (and not because there are a bunch of talent vying for the jobs.) It's possible that one of the Freshman HS kids step into a starting position, but we sure could use one or two guys that can just plug in.
TE - 2 - Would sure be nice to have some real TEs to make us more multiple on offense and have safety valves for Lewis.
Punter 1 - Is Gerlach our guy? Probably could use another one.
Kicker - 1 -I know we have Heisman Mata and Feely, but would love a guy with a leg that can kick it out of the endzone (especially at altitude) and also inbounds (looking at you Feely.)
I have a lot of confidence with Prime et al in the portal, so I'm guessing we will see a bunch of guys leaving and some good ones coming. Look forward to the ride.
