Visitors this weekend (May 2-May 4)

Wow! that's a pretty impressive crew of visitors. if we eventually landed just a couple of them, it would be a huge coup. We will be up against big time, and big $$ competition, for all of these guys. FWIW, I just read that Texas is going to be spending $35-40 million on their 2025 roster, including a couple more transfers they anticipate signing.

$35-40 Mil? Many schools, including CU, just can't compete with that kind of $$$. Just insane and has to be addressed by some entity.

FWIW, I don’t see the SEC or B1G every agreeing to a “salary cap” or at least the same salary cap as lesser conferences

Say the NCAA sets a salary cap and bans any school that doesn't abide to the cap is banned from the playoffs and March Madness. I know I'm dreaming but some entity has to get control of this even if it means losing these 2 conferences. Let them do their own thing and letts go back to a semblance of college sports with the other 100 or so schools.

It is being addressed. We are in the waning years of this. Have to be patient. Next couple years will be brutal. It’s why you MUST recruit HS like all the top programs do and for us take what our budget allows. Whether those kids offend HCDs or not. Need depth.

When the settlement goes through it fixes a little. The second and third iterations will fix most of it. CBA, hard salary limits etc. Then it comes down to can you have a better marketing team to sell advertising contracts to recruits.
The pure pay for play is going away at the NIL level.

These highly rated kids typically take all their visits and play the game for awhile. Would be surprised to see any commitments
and these days openly say

Kids (recruits) today are totally jaded. There’s almost NO physical facilities that impress them. With appologies to Mr. Elowksky, dinner at Pasta Jay’s no longer sways (swayed my wife and I) . Today their agents (bloodsucking advisors) tell them to wait. G*d forbid they choose a place because of comfort or other extraneous BS. “Come on Man! You (I) can do better!!! We need to wait until Monday… or Tuesday… or until we do the the visit to………

It’s just business. This is how they were raised as kids by parents, Coaches and a society that values money over all else. It’s sad but the kids aren’t exactly the first ones to be like this. It’s all life’s been about since I was born and I’m 52. We can all hate it but for now it’s what we got. It’s going to change in a couple years with contacts and caps but until then just gotta sit and wait.

Our bigger issue is we only go after select players then think we will build something that we can grow with the TP. Went to be bent about something CU can actually control that’s the one. We aren’t ever going to control this current version of Nil or be a major player in.
Thank God at least we are in next two and not the P2. We’d be lucky to win 5 games a year and that’s with 3 powderpuffs OOC. At least where we are we can go bowling and win more than we lose

It’s just business….Sorry, got you by twenty years and can’t agree because I’ve heard that my whole life and just think it’s weak fluff. It’s late here so I’d best not engage. Maybe tomorrow, maybe not. BTW, hope your new knee is coming along. Been there, done that.

Thanks man. Knee going well. Just trying to do the PT and focus on walking properly with no limp. I’ve been please 2.5 weeks in with the progress for sure. Back on the bike hard, able to garden and workout. Long long ways to go but it’s been nice weather I’m able to at least be out in it without huge pain so I’m grateful

I hate that it’s all a business and don’t raise my kids with these values. Nor do I share the broader society’s values of division and greed. I just can’t get angry at the kids over it. Not the ones that go about their business, work hard and conduct themselves with some modicum of class for 18-23 year olds.

It stinks how it all works now but I really think it’s not the issue for us. We know our limitations. We should still be recruiting and developing. We just refuse to. We’ve lost 34 to the portal and counting because we use the portal for most of what we do and it’s the culture we have. Get yours, play for us now and contribute.
If you don’t either we will cut you loose or someone will pay you more to leave. It’s very mercenary.
If somehow we catch lightening in a bottle this year and moving forward we can say it works and maybe people stomach it more while we wait for the powers that be to finish all the realignment.
Until then I’ll just do what I’ve done the last 3 years and not really follow recruiting much. None of it really matters until late summer. Then we know more what we have

Or an alternative take: The portal is a game of musical chairs so you'd better get yours before they're gone. Looking at the Portal Tracker sites it seems like plenty of kids have committed to new schools over the past week.
Edit: clarification- I was primarily referring to transfers from the portal. HS recruiting dynamics and timetable is a different calculus.

I assume high school kids visit, wait for the financial offer through a parent or rep, compare with other offers, then look at other factors like depth chart, location, coach . . . So I assume it’s a longer process. You do not want to leave money on the table

Totally disagree with this. Freshman recruiting the last 3 years at CU has been 22 players in 2023, 12 players in 2024 and 14 players for 2025. Of those players lets assume all the 2025 players are still on the team. From 2023, 17 of 22 players have left and for 2024, 7 of 12 players have left the team. Forget about NIL, with the new transfer portal players move to get PT for the most part. If a freshman isnt getting significant position playing time by the beginning of their 2nd year, they will be gone unless they are just here to get a free degree or have some emotional tie to the CU football program. You see this everywhere. FOrget about NIL, that is only for the few players that can actually leverage their play for significant cash. Sure all schools will be somewhat impacted by NIL but it is a small part of the problem. UNless player movement in the portal is greatly restricted, and i think the horse has left the barn on that issue, the turnover of recruited freshmen will continue and may accelerate. No way way to build depth when more than 1/2 your players are gone by year 2.

HCDS has it right as usual. Recruit kids you think can play by year 2, Other than that, go to the portal positions of need, looking for the hungry sophmore or Junior at Alabama or Texas that's stuck behind 3, 5 star dudes playing the same position. TO ignore this is to bury your head in the sand. I dont like it either but it aint changing unless player movement is restricted whether or not NIL goes away.
The good news for CU and the bad news for players seeking a scholly is that rosters can easily shrink to 65 or 75 players because the recruit and develop model has been obliterated at the top level of college football.

Also the good news for CU and other non-fat cat football schools, is that with roster reductinos across the board, the Alabamas of the world wont be able to stockpile all the great players as easily. Talent will get more evenly distributed.

Well, can't win them all; but it does sting a little to be dropped immediately after such a hyped OV. Obviously Ojo would have been a great get.

He's a Top 10 overall recruit in the country, and #3 OL. This kid can go anywhere he wants, and will get BIG NIL $$ at many top tier schools. As Deion has said, and surely conveyed to him, this isn't necessarily the place for the kids who are lookin for a big $$ bag. I'm going out on a limb, and projecting that situation, into his quick decision to rule out CU.

To be honest I am disappointed with recruiting at this point. After the flurry last week even the portal has ground to a halt with some needs still not filled. Hopefully there are some silent commits but with all the big bag schools recruiting our targets I doubt that is the case. Still waiting for Falk to make his presence known with a blue chip RB, also.

At 6-foot-7 and 280 pounds, Ojo will be a name to watch next year. As of now, Colorado only has one player in the 2026 class, which is three-star JUCO edge rusher Domata Peko Jr.
We got a Juco so all good..
I know long way to December

I don’t really care what our class looks like right now, I care what it looks like on signing day. Agree it seems a little weird we haven’t had more commitments yet, but I do like the guys we’re getting on campus.

Personally I like the Athlon reporter's reference to AMAD Gorney. Adam's middle eastern cousin?

Prime says " How many times do I have to tell ya? Repeat after me":
  • We ain't hard to find
  • The number of players calling me and want to come here is tremendous
  • We're bringing in the "Louis"
Seriously, by now we need to acknowledge that this is an incremental process. The caliber of players we are targeting are a significant level higher than the first 2 years. Gotta start closing on more than 1 or 2 blue chippers a year. Yes, this takes some time, but this is also a critical cycle and subsequent on-field season as Prime needs to show that CU is more than the Shadeur/Travis show and a serious competitive program. I am a cynic by nature , but I am not betting against Prime. Go Buffs 🦬

Excellent post. We have our standards and we aren’t compromising. I support and agree.

I agree with you but currently we're ranked dead last in the Big 12 in recruiting ranking we have two commits neither of which have any really strong offers outside of ours.
Yes it's a long way to December but I think we're going to see some of the glitz and glamor taken away from us this year just because we lost our rock stars.
I've said it multiple times this is where we really see if he can coach and recruit without his kids and that includes Travis being part of the program

Hate to disagree with you doc but if you look at our current commits there's no way that's up to what we would like to see as our standard.
Two commits one other offer and it's Connecticut almost as bad as Maine

We’ll see what happens in the next 6 months. I’d rather be where we are now than Dorrell’s classes that we were ranked top 25 just because of sheer numbers but zero real playmakers

I agree with you to an extent but only because of how things have shifted. It’s just a later cycle for HS kids. Teams approach it differently as far as timing and effort.

I won’t worry until September. If we have a small class by the end of the month at that point I’ll be disappointed and just hoping Salter is the next TH and can will us to more than 6 wins.

Until then I am going to just keep telling myself we finally get it and are building for more than the stats of one kid
