I was listening to Sirius Radio's College Sports a couple of nights ago and Chris Childers was discussing his distaste for the current spring game system that exists in college football. The DC at Penn State called in and told him about his idea to make things better. instead of the current 15 days of spring practice allowed by the NCAA, cut that down to 12 days or so, and allow teams to run mini camps in the summer and have a preseason game in the fall, with a FCS level school.
You could charge money for the game, but it would be less than a regular season ticket, play your starters for a series or two, and use the rest of the game as a time to work your #2 and 3 guys. He believed that it would better benefit the teams by getting quality experience for their back ups, the FCS school would get a chance to match up against a FBS school, and it would allow some fans to go to a game that they might not be able to go to due to cost or being sold out. It would also give the team a warm up game and that would encourage them to schedule more P5 opponents in the regular season.
I am not sure what I think about this idea but it has been on my mind so I thought I would bring it here to see what you all think. Would it help teams like CU that are young or are trying to adjust to a new system? Thoughts?
