ABOUT THE GOLDEN BEARS: California is 10-3 overall and has won five of its last six. The lone loss during that stretch was at No. 5 Virginia, a 63-62 overtime thriller. Cal is averaging 77.1 points per game on 47 percent shooting. The Bears own the Pac-12’s best field goal percentage defense allowing just 37 percent on the season, although the 37 percent they give up on 3-point attempts is second-to-last in the conference. Cal also holds its opponents to just 64.8 points per game while owning a plus-10 per game average on the boards.

Senior guard Tyrone Wallace leads California at 15.5 points and 4.4 assists per game. Freshman forward Ivan Rabb tops the Bears and ranks third in the Pac-12 in shooting at 65.6 percent while averaging 12.4 points and a team-best 9.0 rebounds per game. Freshman forward Jaylen Brown is averaging 14.5 points and 5.5 rebounds. Junior guard Jordan Mathews has a team-best 31 3-point field goals while averaging 13.1 points an outing.

Cuonzo Martin is in his second season at California with a record of 28-18. He is in his eighth overall season as a collegiate head coach, sporting a record of 152-100.

THE SERIES: This will be the 26th meeting between Colorado and California with the Bears holding a 13-12 series edge. The series is even at 4-4 since Colorado joined the Pac-12 for the 2011-12 season. Colorado and Cal will meet twice this season, the rematch in Boulder coming on Jan. 31. Colorado has won just once in 11 tries in Berkeley, that coming on a 63-60 decision on Dec. 7, 2004.

Tad Boyle is 5-4 against California as a head coach. Cuonzo Martin is 1-0 against Colorado as a head coach.
