We were joined by receivers coach Phil McGeoghan, tight ends coach Clay Patterson, tailbacks coach Darian Hagan and o-line coach Kyle DeVan today following the Buffs' Tuesday evening practice. Each coach had a number of things to say regarding individual players, their position group in general and how spring ball has been going.

I'll post videos of their media addresses ASAP but for now, here are some pertinent remarks by each coach.

McGeoghan on Baylor grad transfer RJ Sneed: "I'm very pleased with RJ. He's an outstanding leader and a very good football player as everybody knows...He's very intelligent and is a good leader by example. He'll pull guys to the side and teach them proper learning habits. It takes time to retain an offense and to go out and perform — there's a process that goes into being successful, and he's been successful at Baylor."

Karl Dorrell mentioned recently that depth was thin at WR due to guys being banged up and McGeoghan confirmed that. Apparently only four guys are practicing right now: per McGeoghan, Chase Penry and Ty Robinson are not currently; whether or not they'll be able to practice by the end of spring is unknown.

McGeoghan had good things to say about what he's seen from Daniel Arias this spring, too.

...

Hagan said he was confident in his group of RBs, even though he;s only got three scholarship guys right now in Alex Fontenot, Deion Smith and Jayle Stacks. When asked about Stacks, Hagan was adamant that he'll be see this fall:

"You're going to see him. He has a role. The thing about Jayle is he was stuck behind a bunch of guys (last year) and by those guys leaving, opens up the door for him. He's bought into being an 'F,' which is our fullback, and being a tailback. He has a role and I told him, 'If you buy into your role, you'll be rewarded.' He's doing that right now."

...

Patterson talked about his room of TEs and having one established No. 1 guy in Brady Russell but an open depth chart behind him. Per Patterson, a spring objective of his is to see what separation he can observe among the likes of Erik Olsen, Caleb Fauria, Louis Passarello and Austin Smith so that by the end of April, some work has been done towards getting a proper depth chart in order.

Patterson in particular singled out Smith, whom he said isn't talked about as much as the aforementioned other three guys.

"Every day is an open competition with them. They're competing with each other and I think. the room is a little different when you throw Austin Smith in there, who's extremely athletic. His skill set's a little different than Erik and Louis and Caleb, but it's open every day...The goal is to figure out who our 2 is going to be and who our 3 is going to be by the end of spring. And maybe, fall."

...

As for DeVan, I asked him today if in his mind, he has any starters on the OL, given Frank Fillip, Jake Wiley and Casey Roddick all return, having started last year.

DeVan: "One thing I told (my players) is that there's no starting guys, there's just a group that goes out there with the first group and the group that goes out there with the second group. It changes, it's going to change consistently and it's not about finding the starting five, it's about finding the best five. (Once) we find the best five, it's about finding the best pairings of those five individuals."

DeVan also talked about Alabama transfer Tommy Brown, who has started spring at guard but per DeVan, will see reps at tackle before late.

"He really has a great foundation coming from his previous school. He's obviously worked with some really good offensive line coaches, so his knowledge of the game has really helped the younger guys. He's been a great leader in that sense."

....

Apologies for the super late post, will have more tomorrow from the coaches!
