Colorado was the first school to offer San Bernardino (Calif.) Aquinas outside linebacker Joshka Gustav. The Buffs offered the German native back on January 30.
The CU coaching staff, led by defensive coordinator DJ Eliot, made Gustav an early priority for Colorado's 2018 class. Gustav visited Boulder a couple of weeks ago, and then made his decision to commit to Colorado on Thursday night.
"I want to be the outside linebacker in the class of 2018 for Colorado," Gustav said. "I just felt that it was the perfect fit for me. When I went up for my unofficial visit, I just fell in love. The coaches are are the best coaches you can get. I am super excited to work with them. I'm going to try to earn a starting spot as soon as I can when I get there.
"I called the defensive coordinator [DJ Eliot] and talked to coach MacIntyre. They were super excited for me. They can't wait to get me up there, and I can't wait to go on my official visit, probably during the season."
Outside of the coaching staff, Gustav's feel that he got while on CU's campus is another reason he committed.
"When I got there, I talked to a couple of players after their practice," Gustav explained. "They were super nice, and they only had good things to say about Colorado. It really made it feel like home for me when I was there. It's the right fit."
Often times when recruits commit to a school, they still entertain other options. Gustav isn't even thinking about right now; his gaze is set on Colorado.
"I don't know what to expect from other schools right now, but there will probably other schools that will show interest in me. I am committed to Colorado and that's where I want to play football," he said.
