Neill Woelk recently retired (January 1st) after ten years as the contributing editor for the CUBuffs.com website. Previously, Neill was an award-winning sportswriter for the Boulder Daily Camera. In all, Neill spent over four decades covering the Buffs, and was kind enough to sit down for an interview about his years covering CU, with many of his stories covering the Bill McCartney era.
Neill was the first reporter to interview Coach Mac as CU's new head coach (and, in an amusing anecdote, Neill also got the second-ever interview). We cover Coach Mac getting a contract extension in 1984 (in the midst of a 1-10 season), the program-altering 20-10 win over Nebraska in 1986, CU's run to the national championship, the Fifth Down game, the Miracle at Michigan, and Coach Mac's surprise retirement announcement.
If you were a Buff fan during the Coach Prime era, this will be a pleasant stroll down memory lane. If you are newer to the Buff Nation, and would like to hear some stories about the recently passed legendary CU coach ... or just need a break from the Coach Prime "will he or won't he" drama - this will be time well spent.
Episode 1 of Season Six of the CU at the Game podcast is available at your usual haunts, like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and iHeart Radio. Or, you can listen to the podcast here or here.
