Former ASU legacy guard Jalen House starts for them and put up 30 points and dished out 6 assists. A 'pesky' defender with quick hands and active feet, he can get a ton of steals and is super quick in transition. Looks like he's finally found his 'shot' too. Always thought he was a really dangerous player but even legacies don't want to play for Hurley (crazy that he transferred to UNM... LOL). New Mexico had their worst MBB season maybe ever last year when they didn't play a single game in the state of New Mexico much like their football team. Looks like they will be reinvigorated this year. They are a historically strong mid major and few teams ever go into the Pit and come away happy in their heyday. One of the best basketball venues with huge capacity crowds screaming loudly all game long. Thankfully this one is on our court.
Not only do they have House now, but they also have another familiar name: Jamal Mashburn... Jr. Never seen Junior play but can't help but be intrigued. If he's anything like his Dad, he's going to be a good one. Was with Pitino at Minny last year. Former Colorado prep star Javonte Johnson is still there. He's like one of two guys to return to their team. He's a bouncy 6'6" guard similar to our own 'Niq, but not the ball handler and more of a 3 point shooter. He lead the state in scoring as a prep at Cheyenne Mountain (30 ppg). 'Niq won player of the year over Johnson and with both from the Springs, that could be a nice little rivalry. Both are the top players off the bench for their teams.
KU transfer Gethro Mascadin starts in the paint for them. Scored 18 for them against FAU.
Looks like they have transfers from UNC and TCU among others schools, so Rich has a lot of parts, but not sure about the whole as of yet.
