Ethan O'Connor has been one of my favorite recruits to watch this offseason. He's someone I think is being undervalued by programs, and tonight Colorado has decided to jump into his recruitment with an offer as the recruiting surge led by Armond Hawkins continues. Karl Dorrell jumped into the conversation with this offer as well, and it is definitely more rare for the head coach to be making the "offer" call in recruitments. That shows how much the Buffs think of the two-way player from Los Alamitos, California. O'Connor's mom went to UCLA and the Bruins have been a big player in his recruitment as has Washington. Texas A&M recently became involved with him as well. Los Alamitos is the home of several top West Coast recruits including USC commits Malachi Nelson and Makai Lemon. O'Connor is another one of the top players on the team and he has legitimate ability on either side of the ball. Most schools have been recruiting him as a defensive back but he has been gaining momentum as a receiver as well. His future is likely on defense, but he definitely has made it an intriguing thought that he could potentially play on offense. Washington has even dangled the idea of playing on both sides of the ball.
This is a really strong offer for Colorado for a player it actually has a shot at getting in my opinion. Other schools are missing the mark by not pursuing him more heavily. He did have a hot start to his recruitment with offers from Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Penn State and USC among others, but since the spring he has mostly been focused on UCLA and Washington with other schools going a bit quiet in his recruitment. Texas was going to be a big player at one point but filled up at his spot.
If the Buffs are able to get him out on a visit and eventually pull in his commitment it would be a really strong pickup. I like his game on both sides of the ball.
