Yeah, on the surface, seems like a Mac2 type of guy. NFL DB coach. Known widely as a DB guru. P5 Defensive coordinator. Was known for his recruiting at Stanford. All this sounds like Mac2. The difference is though, he has 5 years of experience at a P5 school in the toughest conference at the best academic school in said conference by far. This isn't San Jose State to CU and being completely out of your league for the first several years before you hire the right defensive staff.
Mason knows the pitfalls already. He's learned from his mistakes already. He knows what it will take to win at this level already. He knows how to maneuver the landscape already. He also likely knows he will only be as good as his staff and might be able to attract the right assistants to coach with him. Colorado is a lot easier to win at than Vandy.
If Mason comes in with the right pitch and the right rolodex of assistants to George, I would be on board. His salary is similar to Babers'. Could be poached and it wouldn't break the bank. I like the Stanford background. The name might not be as splashy as some others, but it does make sense. His Vandy teams fight hard outside of a bad game against South Carolina.
