We all know that coaching football is the most challenging of any sport, with 11 players on the field, big guys, small guys, fast guys, strong guys, etc. Lots of different skills. We also know that big boy football is so competitive that "small things" can mean the difference between being a good team and a mediocre team. With all that said, how is it that someone can coach a position that he has never played and thus never been coached for the "small things" as well? When we are competing against top 10 teams, how can they be effective, how do they even know what the "small things" are? For example, our running backs coach never played the position. Defensive backs also seems like a position with lots of "small things" that can make a difference in the performance of a player and they need a coach with actual DB experience. Same for receivers, offensive linemen. I think you could make a strong case for every position on the field.Someone please explain.
