This is simply unbelievable. After Saturday evening’s 38-24 victory over No. 22 Washington State, the Colorado Buffaloes, now 9-2 have an opportunity to be 10 game winners in 2016. How rare is this? Well, Colorado Football has been around since 1890 and has won 10 games in a season just seven other times. The most recent was in 2001 under Gary Barnett when the Buffs reached the Fiesta Bowl.

As students poured down onto the field Saturday night at Folsom Field to surround their beloved Buffs after a thrilling game that was on National TV on the Fox Sports Network, you can only imagine how the students and the seniors on this Colorado Football Team must be feeling. If you’re a senior on the roster this was your record coming into the 2016 season: 10-27.

This is your record going into November of 2016: 9-2. No one is overlooking Utah who just lost to Oregon today 30-28, but you have to like the Buffs’ chances to reach the PAC 12 Title Game. All they have to do is beat Utah at home next weekend, a game that will again be at Folsom Field and again be covered by Fox at 5:30PM.

While the game is during the Thanksgiving Break, Folsom should still be rocking with over 50,000 fans, there was a total of 48,658 fans in attendance on Saturday which is the biggest home crowd in the Mike MacIntyre era.

Victory Over No. 22 Washington State

In a Top 25 matchup that featured 5 lead changes and critical big plays, the Colorado Buffaloes proved that they were not only the better team on the field, but also had the better coaching staff. Washington State came into the game having one of the nation’s top offensive units averaging more than 517-yards per game, but it was Colorado’s offense that out-gained the Cougars racking up 603-yards, the most the Buffs’ offense has compiled all season long.

Washington State’s Quarterback Luke Falk garnered headlines all week about his ability to make plays and while he was effective throwing for 325-yards and 3 touchdowns, it was Colorado Quarterback Sefo Liufau who put together the performance maybe of his career. Liufau was 27 of 41 passing for 345-yards and also ran for 108-yards off 23 carries and scored three touchdowns.

Washington State’s offense got their numbers in with 462 yards of offense, but the Buffs made some great second half adjustments and outscored the Cougars 24-7 in quarters three and four. The Colorado defense also came up big on third downs stops, the Cougars were 4 of 15 on third down efficiency (26%), coming into the game their average was 51%. Falk was 26 of 53 passing (49%), his season average completion percentage is 73.9%.

What’s Next

Keep winning. That is all Colorado has to do in order to control their own destiny and play for a potential spot in the College Football Playoff if you can believe that. The Buffs host Utah next weekend at Folsom and if they win, they’ll be playing either Washington or Washington State for the PAC 12 Title which is Friday, December 2nd at 7PM from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

While it’s tough to predict who the College Football Playoff Committee will ultimately choose to play in the 4 playoff spots, Colorado has a tremendous amount going for them and with a win over Utah next weekend, you have to think playing in a January Bowl is likely for the Buffs, a team picked to finish dead last in the conference.
