Here's everything Karl Dorrell had to say after Wednesday's practice, including some personnel updates, how things have been going under the new OL coaches and facing No. 7 Oregon:
Dorrell on what he's seeing out of the OLs room after the coaching change:
“There is renewed energy right now just because it’s a different (coaching) voice. I do think William (Vlachos) and Donovan (Williams) are closer in age — I think they’re probably relating a little bit better with (players) better in terms of teaching their technique and skill and being able to demonstrate it themselves because they’re fairly youthful. There’s been that and I feel like it’s really created a really positive work ethic with what’s going on right now. We’ve had a good week of practice with those guys. They all expressed to me that they’re learning more in the last couple days than they have in quite some time. I’m encouraged with what they’re saying and the work that they’re doing.”
Dorrell on the benefits of coaches' messaging to the players coming from a new voice (aka Vlachos and not Rodrigue):
“It’s a number of things, obviously, and not to put it all on coach Rodrigue, because we struggle in a lot of areas offensively — it’s not just the offensive line. But a different approach I think is good in times like this. I try to change my approach with the team, too. Instead of being normal, you try to change it up differently so that the messaging hits them in a different way. So, I think it’s still part of that process when your team hasn’t had that much success — we’re still trying to find the right buttons to push. But, to their credit, they are responding favorably. They’re still working hard in practice, they’re still enjoying the game and all those things. The things I ask for as a coach, they’re doing that for us.”
