Akil Jones is a 6-foot-1, 215-pound two-way standout from San Jose (Calif.) Valley Christian. He earned offer No. 5 from Colorado after showing well at one of the Buffs' satellite camps in California earlier this month. "They said they liked my speed, my size and just the way I have a nose for the ball," Jones said. He plays running back and defensive end/outside linebacker for Valley Christian and is being recruited for linebacker. Jones is set to take an unofficial visit to Boulder on Wednesday (flying in tomorrow night). "They said they have some great facilities that I need to come see so I said, 'Sounds great!,' he said. "I heard they have one of the best academic programs in the nation and they have a beautiful campus. I can't wait to see it myself." San Diego State, Utah State, Wyoming and UNLV have also offered. Oregon State has hinted about the possibility of an offer and he spoke to two Texas assistants today, with the Longhorns expressing strong interest. He currently favors CU and said he could make a commitment as soon as early July or as late as mid-way through his senior season. I'll have more in a front page write-up tomorrow.
