Im not sure if the concept of a brick game is still a thing in the HCDS world. Whether or not it is, the KSU game is the biggest game we've seen at in Boulder since the 2018 team lost to Oregon State in OT 41-35. After starting the season 5-0 with wins over CSU and Nebraska, CU lost to USC and Utah in close games on the road and then returned home to Boulder seeking bowl eligibility. A win against either USC or Utah on the raod and HCMM is probably still in boulder - Thank goodness that did not happen. After losing a 31-3 lead in OT the Buffs lost their next 3 to finish 0-7 and 5-7 overall and out of bowl contention. NOw 7 years and 3 head coaches later still no bowl game. SImilar to the 62-36 beatdown which the Nubs have never really recovered from, games like our loss to Oregon St in 2018 can have lingering impacts on a program and need to be overcome every chance we get. A win against KSU next week would simply be huge for this program:
1)One step closer to bowl eligibility 2)clearly moving into the top echelon on b12 footbal in 2024 2) B12 championship/College FB playoffs still in view 4)Heisman candidate CBWRTH still on a nationally viable team 5) Heisman and Davey Obrien candidate QBSS still on a nationally viable team 6) HCDS viability, visability and mystic as a top college football coach for HS kids and transfers gaining momentum. 7) Fox, ESPN
and national network attention rising.
It doesnt all have to all come crashing down with a loss but this kind of momentum is very hard to build. LAst year's team started 3-0 and was not ready for the attention mentally, emotionally or physically. Too much too fast and the shallow confidence built so quickly, just as quickly went away. TO his credit HCDS doubled down and has again gotten the team to a good place. Now do we crash or take the next step? I hate that we need to deal with an 8:15 pm best case, kickoff for such a big game against a very very solid team. Folsom needs to be rocking next Saturday.
I hope our team and coaches took the off week seriously and improved becasue i know the KSU guys did. This can be a huge game for the Buffs with a win. With a loss we are back to square 1 trying to build momentum. KSU coaches know this and the y will be more than ready.
