QUICKLY
USC now leads the series by a 12-0 count (6-0 in Boulder, 6-0 in Los Angeles) … The Buffs are 7-7 on November 11 (but 6-4 since the date officially became Veteran’s Day in 1938) … CU won the coin toss for the seventh time in 11 games this season (and for the 20th time in the last 25 games …

Colorado gained its most yards ever against USC (486; previous best was 403 in 2014); the 376 yards passing was the first time over 300 (high was 275 last year) … USC’s 522 was its fourth-most in the series … The Trojans rushed for over 300 yards in their last two games but had 193 today (38 attempts).
USC NOTES
The last time USC blocked two field goals in a game was in the 2011 Colorado game in Boulder.
This was TB Ronald Jones’ (25-142, 1 TD) 12th career 100-yard rushing game and his seventh of 2017. He now has 1,224 yards in 10 games this season.

What was it about second down? Teams combined for 51 plays for 503 yards; the other downs combined: 104 for 505

WR Juwann Winfree (5-163) and WR Bryce Bobo (10-113) were the two first Buffaloes to have 100-yard games in the same game since Paul Richardson (11-140) and Nelson Spruce (8-140) against California in Boulder on Nov. 16, 2013 … PK James Stefanou entered the day 16-of-18 on field goals but had the first two of his career blocked.

Attendance … Today’s attendance of 49,337 raised the total for the season (six home games) to 282,335, an average of 47,056 per game, the highest since 2011 (50,355 for five games). CU’s average increased for the fourth straight season, the first time that has occurred since 1988-91. The final season ticket count for the year was 20,808 (plus 11,500 student passes).

Marriage Proposal … At the end of CU’s Senior Salute, ILB Trent Headley (Littleton/Columbine High School) proposed to Elizabeth Trujillo (a CU cheerleader) … and she did say yes!

Scoreless First Quarter Twice. The scoreless first quarter in tonight’s game was just the eighth involving the Buffaloes over the last 189 games (dating back to 2003) … but the second this season and both in the last four games (Washington State was the other) … It had been almost five years before that one.

USC was the last team to shutout CU in the first half at Folsom; the Trojans led 23-0 in an eventual 47-29 win on Nov. 23, 2013…

Second Blocked Punt. ILB Nate Landman blocked the second punt of the year for Colorado—CB Andrew Bergner got a hand on a punt by Texas State—but Landman’s was the first full block since ILB Doug Rippy had two at Toledo on Sept. 11, 2009.

Buffalo Heart Award … The 19th annual Buffalo Heart Award was presented postgame to TB Phillip Lindsay. Coordinated and selected by the “fans behind the bench,” he is the fourth running back to win the award, joining Cortlen Johnson (2001), Bobby Purify(2004) and Rodney Stewart (2011) as well as the 11th offensive player to win it (current co-OC/WR coach Darrin Chiaverini (WR) was the inaugural recipient in 1998).

INDIVIDUAL LINER NOTES

QB Steven Montez (49-27-2, 376, 2 TD, 12-40 rushing)
With 416 yards total offense, it was the 14th time in CU history a player amassed 400-plus yards; it was his third 400-yard career game, which set a CU record (he had been tied with Koy Detmer, Mike Moschetti and Sefo Liufau with two).
The 376 yards passing was a career-high and the fifth 300-yard game of his career (fourth this season); he is still 11th on CU’s all-time passing yards list (3,797), but just five yards away from cracking the top 10 (Darian Hagan holds 10th with 3,801). His 27 career TD passes are now tied for ninth all-time at CU.
He is now 7-7 as CU’s starting QB (4-3 at home).

WR Juwann Winfree (5-163, 2 TD receiving)
He had the first 100-yard game of his CU career, as well as his first CU touchdowns (coming into this game, he had 12 catches for 109 yards, and in his one season at Maryland, he caught 11 balls for 158 yards and two touchdowns in 2014).
His 79-yard touchdown that put CU on the board was the longest play from scrimmage this season, as well as the longest from scrimmage since the 2013 season opener, when Paul Richardson caught an 82-yard TD pass from Connor Wood against Colorado State,
His two TD receptions covered 136 yards, the most yards for two scores in a game since that same 2013 game against Colorado State, when Richardson had two for 157 (82 and 75).

WR Bryce Bobo (10-113, 0 TD receiving)
He had the second 10-reception game of his career, the other was also against USC last year (for 83 yards).
This was the third 100-yard game of his career, and he moved into 12th on CU’s receiving yards list (1,585).
He now occupies seventh by himself in all-time receptions (146).

TB Phillip Lindsay (23-68, 1 TD rushing, 2-11 receiving)
He became CU’s all-time leader in yards from scrimmage, as he now has 4,598, passing Rodney Stewart (4,567, 2008-11).
moved into second place on CU’s all-time rushing list with 3,635 yards, as he passed Rodney Stewart (3,598, 2008-11); TB Eric Bieniemyleads with 3,940 (1987-90).
He moved into second place on CU’s all-time rushing list with 3,635 yards, as he passed Rodney Stewart (3,598, 2008-11); TB Eric Bieniemy leads with 3,940 (1987-90).
He set the school record for the most first downs earned in a season by a non-quarterback with four today, giving him a career total of 230 (191 rush/39 receiving). He entered the game tied with Rodney Stewart.
He now has 963 career receiving yards, six shy of Stewart’s 969 for the most by a running back in CU history (and 37 yards short of becoming CU’s first 1,000-yard rusher and receiver).

HOOPS: Buffs win 66-51 in season opener

BOULDER — Colorado got good production from seniors George King and Tory Miller-Stewart plus a nice debut from freshman McKinley Wright IV on Friday as the Buffs opened the season with a 66-51 win over Northern Colorado at the Coors Events Center.

After missing most of the first half with two fouls, King led the Buffs with 12 points — all in the second half — and nine rebounds. Miller-Stewart added 11 points and five rebounds while Wright added 10 points, four rebounds and three assists in his first game as a Buff.

Andre Spight led UNC with 19 points.

The Buffs put the game away midway through the second half, breaking open a tight game with a 12-0 run.

HOW IT HAPPENED: After taking an 11-point lead into the locker room at the half, 35-24, Colorado lead the Bears back in the game in a hurry after intermission. Sparked by five points from Spight, UNC went on a 13-0 run early in the half to tie the game at 37-37 barely four minutes in.

The two teams then traded buckets before Colorado once again began to pull away. After UNC closed the gap to 45-44, Colorado went on a 12-0 run over a five-minute span to take a 57-44 edge with just more than five minutes to play. Miller-Stewart had four points in the run, King added three and McKinley Wright finished the burst with a driving layup for a 57-44 lead. UNC ended its drought with a Jordan Davis bucket, but King answered with a 3-pointer to bump the margin to 14, 60-46, with just more than four minutes to play.

Colorado then kept the lead in double digits for the remainder of the game.

The Buffs jumped out to a quick lead, getting five quick points from Namon Wright and four from Miller-Stewart to go up 11-7 just six minutes in. CU then built the lead to double digits when Dominique Collier swiped a pass near midcourt and drove for a layup to bump the Buffs' edge to 23-13.

But the Buffs went cold and the Bears slowly chipped away. Spight hit five straight points in a 9-2 UNC run, and with just under four minutes to go, Colorado's edge had been cut to 25-22.

That forced a Tad Boyle timeout and his words in the huddle evidently had an effect. The Buffs emerged to put together a 10-2 run over the final four minutes of the half, sparked by five points from Deleon Brown, including a 3-pointer, and a Lucas Siewert trey from the top of the key. McKinley Wright closed the half with a driving layup on a nice halfcourt pass from Lazar Nicolic to give the Buffs a 35-24 lead heading into intermission.

TURNING POINT: With just more than 10 minutes to go, the Buffs went on a 12-0 run over a five-minute span to turn a one-point game into a 13-point lead. Miller-Stewart had four points in the run, George King added three and McKinley Wright finished it with a driving layup.

NEXT UP: The Buffs play host to Denver in a 7 p.m. game Tuesday at the Coors Events Center.

Want some tickets? Edit- they’re taken

I just had a conversation with my wife and not only do the kids have several activities tomorrow (nothing new) but my wife now tells me that she has some women's wine night (blah, blah) planned for tomorrow evening. Unfortunately, this is the first time she has mentioned it!

To cut to the chase, been to all but 1 home game (plus CSU) so this is one of those battles I want to take on. The guy I was going to take to the game now says he doesn't want the tickets, "not that into CU this year". I have contacted a bunch of guys but they have kid activities, are away for the weekend, aren't into CU this year, etc.

My loss is your gain. I'm giving my tickets away so at least they get used. The one caveat is you must be a buff fan (don't give them to your usc friend).

Text me at 860.305.9553 if you want them and we can figure out how to get them to you (I'm in the DTC area). Section 219, row 55, seat 1&2. They are 5th row in the 2nd deck, about the 45 yard line and on an aisle. I have 2 tickets

Watch party at The Rosedale

I know many will be at the game. I’ll be there too because I just can’t not go even when it’s seems dire. For those who can’t make the trip come on out and watch the buffs at The Rosedale.

Great game day specials as always. I can’t predict a win this week but if we do pull this one out we will be pouring victory shots and giving all Buffs in gear 25 percent off the entire tab.

Let’s root to get bowl eleigible this week and make it set up for a great parry at the last wast job party of the year against Utah. Go Buffs.
