Bill O'Boyle is eager to reshape Colorado's offensive line

One of the more intriguing aspects of the coaching transition will be seeing how Colorado's offense performs in year one under Sean Lewis. A big factor in determining that will be the play of the Buffs' offensive line, led by new OL coach Bill O'Boyle

This quote of his from last week stood out to me

“There’s a lot of work to do. I’m never going to knock any other programs or any other staffs, but we’ve got a lot of ground to make up strength-wise. The physical part really has to come along. That’s something that jumped out right off the bat. That’s going to happen.”

Official Game Thread: CU vs UCLA

CU vs No. 4 UCLA this afternoon. Buffs coming off a rough loss against USC. Maybe they would be able to bounce back. We should see Quincy Allen is the rotation as well. Ruffin and Gabbidon out as well.

Notes on the Bruins: Senior Jaime Jaquez, Jr., leads UCLA at 17.0 points and 8.1 rebounds per game while shooting 49 percent from the field. Jaylen Clark averages 13.1 points and leads the Pac-12 in steals at 2.6 per game. Tyger Campbell averages 12.4 points and is fourth in the Pac-12 in assists at 4.8 per game. Amari Bailey averages 10.1 points while shooting 48.9 percent from the field.

Starters:
Luke O'Brien (5.6 ppg)
KJ Simpson (15.9)
Nique Clifford (6.1)
Tristan da Silva (16.1)
Lawson Lovering (3.9)

UCLA
Jaylen Clark (13.1 ppg)
Amari Bailey (10.1)
Tyger Campbell (12.4)
Jaquez Jamie Jr. (17.0)
Adem Bona (8.0)

PAC 12 MBB see lowest attendance since 1983/84 season

Pac-12 men’s basketball teams are “averaging 6,249 fans for home games this season,” the conference’s “lowest figure since 1983-84,” according to Greg Hansen of the Arizona Daily Star.

Conference members are drawing “about 52% of capacity,” and if Arizona is taken out, the remaining Pac-12 teams “average 5,399 per home game, or roughly 47% capacity.”

Why Tad Boyle has stuck with suits in a suddenly casual sport

I figured I'd write about the most important thing heading into CU's game Sunday against UCLA: the fact that Tad Boyle still wears suits as many of his colleagues have abandoned them

Buffs NewsStand - Feb 26

Bottom line for the Pac-12: Does it choose dollars or exposure?

While the appeal of its on-field inventory is debatable, the Pac-12’s media rights saga has all the ingredients of a must-see drama: A distressed league fighting for survival, Big Tech companies potentially reconfiguring a fragmented viewing paradigm and an inexperienced commissioner whose legacy largely hinges on securing a palatable deal.

Amid breathless speculation, an empty Pac-12 statement of unity and an interestingly timed story about another supposedly intrigued Big Tech partner, interviews with five prominent TV industry sources paint the picture of a weakened conference facing a pivotal decision: Maximize dollars or exposure?

“It’s a very interesting decision for them – they probably can’t do both,” Neal Pilson, the former president of CBS Sports, told On3 on Wednesday.

Debate has stirred for years over when deep-pocketed Big Tech titans would encroach on live sports media rights. That time is now. Amazon is building an ever-growing portfolio that includes spending $1 billion annually for the NFL’s Thursday night package and securing deals to showcase the WNBA, New York Yankees, Overtime Elite, the UEFA Champions League and more. And it may try to get a slice of the NBA when the league’s deal with ESPN/Turner Sports ends after the 2024-25 season. As one longtime TV source said, “I see Amazon specifically coming in for live sports. It is more than dabbling.” Apple TV+, meantime, has secured a 10-year, $2.5 billion deal for Major League Soccer games and is spending $85 million annually for Friday night MLB games.

But what the tech giants possess in dollars they lack in exposure – at least at this point. Yes, the landscape-shifting cord-cutting trend is continuing. Total pay TV subscriptions – cable and satellite – dropped by 6.3 percent in Q3 last year, showed data from research firm MoffettNathanson. More than 34 million homes exist entirely outside the cable network ecosystem; pay TV penetration is now roughly just 61 percent. And, yes, there are now more than 200 million Amazon Prime Video subscribers, including more than 150 million in the U.S. Apple TV+ has a much smaller market share (7 percent) and, as of last year, was estimated to have some 25 million paid subscribers

Hoosiers at Boilers

Man, helluva a game. IU sure has some shooters and are up 49-42 with 14m to go. Hoosiers have their own version of Jimmy Chitwood, Trey Galloway from Culver, Indiana. Son of a coach and snagged a couple State Championships. Dude hustles his ass off and has been everywhere tonight. There are shooters out there if Tad is willing to look around and recruit hard. Edit: they have another kid, Miller Kopp who can fill it up too.

Mississippi DT Jacob Bradford feels welcome during recent visit to Colorado

The big boys are all lining up

Saban pushed for things. Dabo pushed for things. Harbaugh has pushed. FSU now speaking out. If you honestly believe a GOR will keep all the changes that are coming from happening you aren’t paying attention to what rules the sport.
The PAC is now openly being questioned by the smart folks in the game.
We are going to see a lot of movement the next several years and contracts will be challenged and the challengers will win with the networks making sure the settlements are easier to pay

OT: positive spin for Broncos

This article gives hope to Payton being able to revive Wilson. Man they need and OL and I think better RB and WR but if Payton can fix Wilson even 50 percent they probably are a 9 win team

Gary 'Flea' Harrell knows what Deion Sanders can do for Colorado

“It was so much fun that we had at Jackson State,” Gary "Flea" Harrell said. “Winning does all. It creates an environment where it helps heighten everything by winning. It was fortunate to win and now coming here winning is going to do so much for the city, for this campus.”

More on Harrell's journey with Sanders and working at CU:

Thoughts on MBB (Long)

Was at game last night. Some thoughts moving back and forward. KJ played well. Forced it a few times but tried to lead team. USC much more physical looking team, my age old complaint with Buffs. Interesting how in sync their two guards were with coach, talking during free throws, etc. Tad doesn’t seem to have that with this group. TDS still needs to work on physicality. They grabbed and pushed him, he got frustrated and played very poorly. Think he got into it with own team, Gabbidon maybe, not sure. Have to say, LL improving. Clifford started off well then disappeared, 0 rebounds, will he develop more? OB glue guy, 6-7 man going forward. Julian gave us nothing. Not sure re his future. Wright leaving, hit 2 big 3s, but missed several bunnies that looked like result of being intimidated at this level. Now, the important thing, QA. Shocked to see him enter game in first half? Joked he’d be in starting lineup next year. He might. No conscience. Came out firing, couple of in and outs. Smooooth. Can see why he might look like crap in practice. Grabbed rebounds, blocked shots. If he hangs in there and works hard he’s a starter with KJ, CW, TDS, LL. while not a BB Xs and Os person, we ran the same exact play over and over at the start of possessions, with KJ coming around screen to take ball at top of key. Is that what good offensive teams do? I assume there are then a lot of variations off that set. Honestly don’t know. I have seen teams run what’s essentially a weave over and over again.
