Over / Under Week 1 results

Sorry this took so long. Gonna blame it on a short week and a fun game.

Winner this week was mrmcbeath45. He was the only one with 9 correct picks. He also picked both tiebreakers exactly correct! Great job.

The WR group

Hadnt seen this posted and after watching the game multiple times, just wanted to say I like the way they play and are coached. YAC and blocking really stand out. They really played a great game Saturday. From the 1st drive with Harrison breaking the tackle to gain the 1st to the last Edwards flat TD pass, the WR as a whole were gamers. Horn breaking off his route (post where he had his guy beat) to give Sanders a throw LA Buff could make (ok, maybe a reach there) for the TD was a thing of beauty. Hope these guys continue to play at that level.

Buffs receivers ready to run it back against Nebraska

Colorado's receivers ready to run it back against Nebraska:

Charter and Disney Dispute

ESPN channels have not been aired on Charter systems impacting 14.8M subscribers for the past six days. Never in the past history of ESPN has any cable operator let ESPN channels go dark but now they have. Charter stock is almost unchanged this week this week and not reporting huge losses due to carriage dispute. Disney stock has dropped some 3% this week Sept 1st through today. This is a huge test for the market both for the operators as well as for ESPN on what the future of sports holds and how one pays to watch content.

ESPN will feel the pain of not having the recurring revenue from 14.8M subscribers as these subscribers make up some 15% of their overall franchise revenue they count on to pay to show football and other sports. Bottom line coming out of this new contract with Charter the future will start to take shape on how much money will come from franchise fees verse subscription fees. Charter is now telling their customers to go to Apple or others and to use their data network to get the best experience.

Time will tell what happens to College sports and how we get to view what we want but things are starting....

Predicting Deion Sanders and Colorado's 2023 season game by game

I really, really, really waffled between 5-7 and 4-8, but frankly, nothing between 7-5 and 2-10 would shock me. Also don't feel particularly good about some of the picks (namely ASU), but hey, this is all guesswork, right?

I don't know if there has ever been a team in the history of major college football that enters a season as a bigger unknown. Should be a hell of a lot of fun to follow

CU ranked No. 22 in AP Poll and three Buffs get Pac-12 player of the week

Colorado jumps into the AP Top 25, at No. 22 following the Buffs win vs. TCU on Saturday. It’s the first time CU has been ranked since Dec. 6, 2020.

Pac-12 announces Colorado had the offensive player of the week (Shedeur Sanders), defensive player of the week (Travis Hunter) and freshman of the week (Dylan Edwards).

Interesting perspective

Just had a business meeting with a guy I’ve known and respect for 25 years as a friend and client and a newer acquaintance who I also respect. My friend is a big Michigan booster and the other is an AD for a major P5 power.
We talked business then quantum physics and the power of the mind to create the life you want which we all believe in. This led to Sanders.
They asked how I felt and I said lucky to have the guy and that I admire and respect his success but his antics drive me nuts.

They both invited me to look at it from the power of the mind perspective. As they said no one is perfect and dumb stuff comes out of all of our mouths, especially when we are successful and others see it as boasting. It’s not boasting when you are just stating the obvious to you which is that of course you are successful and there are no limits because you don’t impose any. Calling others out for not getting that isn’t mean you genuinely don’t understand why they choose not to have everything they want because the only reason they don’t is their own fault for not making it so.

Their answer was of course he could potentially have handled the kids leaving better in choice of words but his life, as we all know, has been amazing. Doesn’t drink, doesn’t swear, embraces his own faith without pushing it on others, lives a mindful life and understands the power of the mind to make your life whatever you want. When you look beyond the goofiness that comes out of all our mouths occasionally it really is remarkable.

Guy is going to make mistakes and is going to come off as arrogant but no more so than anyone who is successful and gets it. He isn’t bragging. He is simply saying this is how it is and what I expect of me and anyone I work with or coach because why settle for mediocre.

It really resonated with me as I’ve been accused of a lot of the same stuff and have never cared because those who choose to be mediocre boggle my mind.

Sometimes you need those you respect who have no horse in the game to hold up that mirror.

Lots to chew on, and I’m sure he’ll say something that drives me nuts again but we are very lucky to have the guy. Pretty extraordinary human. Hope he finds a way to get us 6 wins this year. We would be off to the races at that point.

Cool morning conversation and new perspective

Walk-on scholarships?

So isn’t the traditional timing to award any scholarships to walk-ons, at the conclusion of fall camp? And usually done with some fanfare, in front of the team. Haven’t heard if any have been awarded. I thought Charlie Offerdahl and Michael Harrison might potentially be in line to get scholarships. Michael is currently the starter at TE. Anybody have any insight?
