CUs 1st TD to Dawson...

After Lewis et al had absorbed what Nubs were doing on D. 2 WR to the wide, 2 WR (Hunter and Dawson) to the short side. Hunter in motion to the wide side. Nubs already had showed they werent going to allow Hunter to beat them. Hunter stays in the flat the whole play and 2 or 3 Nubs stay short in their zone eyeing him. Usually this is the WR that gets totally forgotten about. The 2 WR at the top at the snap run posts to occupy safeties towards the middle of the field. Dawson comes all the way across the field underneath them and gets into wide open green grass for an easy pitch and catch. Great design. OL did a great job of providing a clean pocket to throw. All around phenomenal design.

Post Game - Rest of Season Thoughts

Great, emotional win. It was not pretty in the first half, however, the team kept at it grinding it out until Nebraska relented. The D was much improved. This was huge as a loss would have let out a lot of national buzz and losing to a heated. hated rival = some fans would have tuned out. Huge for recruiting, national press and keeping us in the headlines.

In Work
- OL is not good. We are going to get wrecked by USC and Oregon's front 7. I have not seen the rest of the league to assess but we are going to lose in the trenches battles badly. 1.8 YPC, 8 sacks, 11 TFL. We are going to get destroyed by a real front 7. Nebraska is good, USC, Utah, Oregon are going to be better We have a atrocious OL. 4 of the sacks are on Shedeur however
- Sanders needs to learn to throw the ball out of bounds. His pocket awareness needs to improve and will as he gets more experience, used to D1 game day speed
- Defense front 7, need to see how we stack up against USC and Oregon. Maybe we can bend but dont break but not convinced we have the horses yet to run on D
- Running game, is not there. See OL play
- Sanders needs to read when a team drops 7 or 8 where his safety valve is, recognize it quickly and get the ball out right away. You are not getting a big play. You can gain 5-6 yards forcing the D to play closer to the line of scrimmage leading to a future down field shot. This has to be done before the WRs first break and the DBs settle into their zones
- Quicker passing plays - see above 8 sacks, 11 TFL
- Too many "bad petalites" Lot of false start and holds. Not as concerned with the personal misconducts with out OL sticking up for our players. 15 yards sucks, but it bonds the team and sends a message. We do need to clean this up before USC and Oregon. Penalties cost us at least 3-10 points.

Positives
- Crushing Nebraska.
- Coaching staff makes adjustments thru 4 quarters. Forgot what this is like, how long has it been for us?
- Staff put the right emphasis on the 1st home gameday mentality was spot on for a huge rivalry game
- Passing game was there when we needed it. We have legit 3 stud WRs that have to be respected
- 4 turnovers for Neb, 0 for CU. We are winning the weekly turnover battle. Great opportunistic D
- LB improved play.
- Not sure if it was due to Nebraska's terrible QB or are teams not challenging our CBs?
- TE usage. Wow, a TE is thrown to and part of the game plan. What is a TE again? It has been 20+ years
- D started to create some pressure against a good OL
- Better ST play and 3/3 FGs.
- Game is the hottest ticket in CFB. The sideline atmosphere is getting noticed by the national media, recruits. Michael Irvin, Wu-Tang Clan, etc the Turnover Throne, etc. ESPN and Fox both announced CSU-CU is their game day destination. I cannot recall both being at the same place before, especially early in the season. This continues to front news, sports show domination CU is having.
- Continued TV presence. We will be on national TV for 5 weeks straight, CSU, Oregon and USC. Oregon and USC will be on national TV. The rest of the sked is TBD but still. 5 games on national TV!!!! - outstanding exposure
- Great win for recruiting
- No major injuries reported. Anyone know Wells condition?

Rest of the year
- Biggest game of the year is at ASU. Likely we are 3-2, we beat ASU on the road = we are likely going bowling. We can pencil in beating Stanford and Arizona at home. That gets us to 6 wins
CSU - W
@ Ore - L
USC - L
@ ASU - W
Stanford - W
@ UCLA - Toss-up
Ore St - Toss up
Arizona - W
@ WSU - Toss up
@ Utah - L
A lot of tough games that we cannot pencil in a Win. We need to take the 4 wins against CSU, ASU, Stanford, Arizona. 3 home games = 3 wins. We need one road win and that is ASU. The rest of the season is playing with the houses money.
- RG better be doing all he can to keep Coach Prime. We are tethered to him. If he leaves, a lot of the team goes and we lose all the momentum we had. We need him to stay 3-4 years establishing an identity and the bench depth to weather when he leaves. OC is our coach of the future however.
- I think QB Shedeur comes back next year. Hearing he is a 3rd day QB. He needs more D1 experience to improve his draft stock. See above, holding the ball, quicker reads, attacking what the defense gives you, etc. He can improve to a day 2 QB, His arm strength will keep him from day 1

Early couple Nibblet thoughts...

1. CU will need to spy their qb. He wants to run. He might get a couple but we have to minimize his effectiveness. I can see DBs left 1v1 tons more this week.
2. I expect them to spread out their front 7 to mitigate our short pass game. This opens up inside runs. We will see if our OL can be effective.
3. Our C and RG didn't play well. Need better there.
4. I'm not sure their secondary can handle Horn, Weaver, Hunter, Edward's et al. The intermediate and deep game could be attractive.
5. They aren't all that scary on O as a whole, but I do think they will want to hold the ball alot, keeping our O off the field. TCU demonstrated they wanted no part of the CU O on their (TCU) last drive.
6. I don't see the shootout we saw last week. Our kids will be pumped to play and we now know Sanders knows how to motivate and push the right buttons.

Just some random things after watching the games.

It’s Game Day

It’s game day and what a glorious morning in Boulder. Sun coming up. Perfect temps and a win is in the air.

Hitting Spruce up here in North Boulder for coffee and Burrito then off to Folsom. Gotta check out the Big Noon festivities around 7:30 and all the madness. Going to be a great day.
How is everyone else getting their pre game going?

Go Buffs. Let’s shuck some corn
