I was watching the Olympic Relay Qualifying this weekend on Peacock. 12 countries qualified at the event and then they fill in the other 2 thru the world rankings. Since 16 or higher was the number they kept talking about the US was going to likely be qualified anyway, but they qualified thru this meet. The US 4X400 Mixed, 4X100 men's and women's and the women's 4X400 won the meet. The 4X400 men's won the qualifying heat they were in, but got DQ'ed as one of the runners moved out of the spot he was place by the judge when the field was 200 meters away. They had to do a second qualifying race on Day 2, so was not in the final.
Okay now for my question. The 100 meters runners had white tape they placed on the track after measuring a distance going heel/toe from as spot on what looked like was the exterior lane line. What was they measuring? The handoff zone is already marked on the track, so that was not it.
