USC officials were informed last February of the culture within the Song Girls program. A Title IX investigation is still ongoing, but officials say they have taken steps to support students in the program, including eliminating weight restrictions from the Song Girls contract.
It took another six months — and repeated prodding from former Song Girls and their families — for a Title IX investigation to be opened, according to multiple sources.
Former coach Lori Nelson declined requests for an interview. In response to questions from The Times, her attorney issued a statement defending her and denouncing the complaint.
