Another practice report coming your way today! Stay tuned!
Practice Report:
BOULDER-- The team took the field today for their fourteenth practice, where they continue to improve on their game. The team got after it today and went head to head for most of the practice.
"We had a really physical practice today, we scrimmaged a lot, I thought it went well, nobody got hurt at all, so it went well."
Rather than focusing on just team drills the team worked with more situational type drills today. The team practiced in full pads and were proving to their coaches they had that mental toughness.
"Wanted to see some competitiveness."
With only a few more practices left of fall camp, Coach MacIntyre wants to see the team continue to work hard and grow before the start of the regular season.
"We need to keep working on our execution, we got to get better on our coverage units on special teams, which we've been working hard on, the last couple of days we've been doing more full cover, full speed."
The team is going to continue working on their special teams this whole week, Coach MacIntyre wants to see the team improve on this before camp ends.
After loosing a key component to their offense last year in Nelson Spruce, the wide receiver core still has a lot of depth at the position. All the guys are capable of making plays and leading this team, whether thats Shay Fields, Devin Ross, Juwann Winfree, Kabion Ento, Jaleel Awini, Jay MacIntyre, or the true freshmen.
"I like the depth we have there, we have a lot of good guys that can make plays and that's good because they can't just key on one guy."
"It's good competition."
The Buffs last year struggled in their tackling and Coach MacIntyre is looking for the defense to improve on that this year.
"We do a lot of wrapping up, angle tackles, tackling the dummies, getting off of blocks, simulating game situations without piles and you have to do that."
With the limitations on how many practices the team is allowed to practice in full pads, getting the tackling work in when you have the time is crucial and will ultimately allow them to become better tacklers.
The team is going to continue to practice in the redzone, they only have five more practices left of camp before the regular season practices will start.
Key Quote from Jimmie Gilbert:
"Experience, we have way more experience this year than we've had in our past. We're trying to get that depth there. You have Addison Gillam, Kenneth Olugbode, those two are great, have been great the past two years. We got me and Derek McCartney at outside linebacker. We got a lot of depth, a lot of energy and a lot of experience."
