Played less than 1/2 a season at Denver this year. Not sure what happened but I assume a season ending injury. Saw him in 1 game and while he was definitely one of their main players, it didn't seem like his game grew that much (although his free throw shooting was greatly improved at 93%). They didn't really have any other competent bigs from what I could see. Averaged 8 points and 5 rebounds against mostly average to weak competition. Sad to see he didn't have a complete season and have a bigger impact on that program. It seems they struggled greatly without him. Were blown out of a lot of games later in the season. I take it their opposition took the ball to the basket without opposition.
Always the what if game in these things. Obviously we lost him and Walton for the entire season and had only Battey and Siewert in their place. I still do wonder if we could have been an NCAA team had Stewart stayed in particular for those early games and mid season games when we needed a big. By season's end, Battey would have been the better player most likely, but with his penchant for foul trouble, still would have been nice to have Tory. If Dombek works out next season and gives us good minutes off the bench in the paint and proves to be a future star, it will have all been worth it in the end.
