It is hard to come up with an overall outlook as the 1’s played together for about 1 drive. They mixed them up a lot afterwards. Just some quick thoughts on the offense:
TE’s – Tight ends today were very solid. Keeney and Irwin did very well. Keeney showed some good reception skills. However they lined up Frazier a few times as TE and he was an absolute beast. He will be lined up and used in the passing game for sure a lot this season.
WR’s – Good day today for the WR’s. Mostly it was the 2’s and 3’s who saw most of the action. Ross was very quick and physical. He had some good receptions. However, he did drop a long pass that was thrown pretty well (edit: read somewhere else that it may have been tipped so not sure here). I have seen him drop passes in practice so hopefully he becomes more consistent.
QB’s – Sefo is the guy bust we only saw one drive from him. Gerhke got a pick 6 but also had a nice long TD strike. Apsay did very well and showed some promise. Montez is the future. He was very mobile and will push Sefo next year (again, Sefo is the starter unquestionably). He will redshirt this year for sure.
RB’s – Powel had a 50 yd run in the beginning. Would have scored but Crawley came from the other side of the field and caught up to him. Crawley can catch anyone. Lindsey had some good aggressive runs and will give us some big plays this year. Carr seems like a great all around rb. I hope they can red shirt him. However do not be surprised if he plays this year as he looked very good today and will compete in the Pac. Fast, aggressive and some shiftiness.
OL – It was tough to evaluate the OL because they are going against our D. I will let Max provide his thoughts.
Kicking – very inconsistent in punting and FG. Diego had 1 pat blocked, and another missed. He did nail a 57 yd. People should not be fired up or angry about this. We knew this was a concern and everyone should have been mentally prepared for this.
Some side thoughts – The select a seat thing is good but they really need to allow people to go to check out the premium seats (champions club, touchdown club, etc.). I know that construction is an issue but everyone already knows how the old seats are in Folsom. The true value of the select a seat event is in the new premium areas that also generate more revenue.
