We landed several good/great players from Louisiana in the past and it's too bad we no longer make it a priority. Yes, we had a few kids from that state transfer out of CU and it's also true that our current staff doesn't really have connections there so it makes sense to focus on California/Arizona/Texas/Hawaii and now Florida.
That said, it seems to me that lots of 2nd and 3rd tier guys in Louisiana are very open to going out of state and LSU certainly can't take everyone. The blue chips typically favor LSU or Bama but the ones who don't sign with those 2 programs end up going to SEC, BIG 12, and even PAC 12 schools. Arizona and Arizona State have done well there recently and kids in Louisiana don't grow up dreaming of playing for the Cats and Sun Devils. If we assigned 1 assistant to the New Orleans area and explained to kids that CU has been the home to lots of former Louisiana high school stars, maybe they'd visit and be impressed by the new facilities.
Also, those kids haven't been close enough to the action to witness the bulk of our losing. While a kid in P12 country might feel CU isn't good enough, perhaps a kid in Louisiana doesn't feel that way and would give us a chance. There are lots of talented 3-stars there who are very athletic but just aren't quite good enough for LSU/Bama/Florida/Auburn.
Take a look at Louisiana's in-state crop this year and tell me we wouldn't benefit from signing a couple 3-stars with speed. If they want to send us 1 of their big/athletic DT's, that would be great too.
