To put it nicely, New Jersey isn't exactly a hotbed of recruiting for the Colorado Buffaloes. But if the CU staff sees a recruit they like, they'll go after him.
Earlier this week, Colorado offered a 2018 prospect that previously only had an offer from Rhode Island. That prospect was three-star wide receiver Carlton Lawrence from Millville, New Jersey.
"Yeah I was so excited," Lawrence said about the offer from Colorado. I was speechless. I didn't know they were looking at me, and when they offered me, I couldn't believe it."
The Colorado coaching staff was in touch with Lawrence's high school coach, but his coach never informed him that Colorado had inquired about him. Other than geographical reasons, that is a big reason why Lawrence was shocked that CU was offering.
"They called me out of nowhere," Lawrence said. "[The Colorado coach] told me his name, but I forgot who it was because I was so excited. He said he was offering me a full scholarship. I was surprised; I didn't know what to say."
After Lawrence received the offer from Colorado, he did research on them right away.
"I actually didn't know what kind of school they were, but I looked them up and saw they were in the Pac-12. I was very excited.
Lawrence is receiving interest from Rutgers, Temple, and Maryland. He is visiting Maryland this weekend.
