5 Players To Stop From Idaho State
Today we look at three very important questions going into Saturday's home opener for Colorado as they take on Idaho State.
#4 Tanner Gueller: QB, Redshirt Sophomore, 6’2’’, 235 lbs.
As the Bengals quarterback in 2015, Gueller appeared in 10 games, completed 92-172 (855 yards) passes for five touchdowns and eight interceptions. He is a redshirt sophomore this year and has more experience at QB this season. Idaho State's likes to get the ball out fast, whether that's screen passes, quick dump offs or hands off the running back. Colorado’s defense will need to pressure Gueller throughout the whole game and cause turnovers. Last week against Simon Fraser Gueller was 24-36 passing for 338-yards and 3 touchdowns.
#23 Jakori Ford: RB, Redshirt Senior, 5’8’’, 195 lbs.
Last year Ford played in all 11 games for the Bengals, racking up 450 yards on 84 attempts and three touchdowns. He averaged 40.9 rushing yards per game. He is also a threat out of the backfield, catching 11 passes for 100 yards and one touchdown. With the Bengals quick slinging offense, the Buffs will need to be aware of where Ford is on the field. The defensive line will need to stop the run game against the Bengals. Last week Ford ran for 77-yards of 12 carries and one touchdown.
#15 KW Williams: WR, Redshirt Senior, 6’1’’, 212 lbs.
In 2015 Williams played in all 11 games and caught 52 passes for 684 yards and seven touchdowns with his longest reception ringing in at 60 yards. Williams was Honorable Mention All-Conference. Against Simon Fraser last weekend he caught for 121-yards, two touchdowns, off four receptions. Williams is a big receiver and should be matched up against Ahkello Witherspoon and Chidobe Awuzie throughout the game and at times Isaiah Oliver, the Buffs will need to be on top of their coverage Saturday, especially with Idaho State’s quick offense.
#25 Joe Martin: LB, Redshirt Sophomore, 6’0’’, 206 lbs.
Last year Martin appeared in 8 games and had 16 tackles, with one pass breakup and a fumble recovery. Against Eastern Washington, Martin had a season-high eight tackles. Last week against Simon Fraser Martin had nine total tackles, with one interception beating his season high last season. The Buffs are going to have to look out for Martin, Saturday. He’s a fast linebacker that will find the ball wherever it is. He is also the type of linebacker that can also drop in coverage effectively. He’s a big run stopper that flies around the field.
#30 Hayden Stout: LB, Redshirt Senior, 6’2’’, 230 lbs.
Stout a hometown boy lead the Bengals in tackles last year with 113 (52 unassisted). Stout had eight tackles for loss, two sacks, one interception, three pass breakups, one quarterback hurry, a recovered fumble and forced two fumbles. Last year Stout was named to the Big Sky Conference All-Academic team, he is definitely the leader on this defense. Last week he recorded 5 tackles and two pass breakups in their win over Simon Fraser. Stout is primed to have a good season this year for the Bengals and a good game against the Buffs Saturday.

3 Burning Questions Heading Into The Idaho State Game
Today we look at three very important questions going into Saturday's home opener for Colorado as they take on Idaho State.
1. Just how good is Colorado?
The Buffs opened as a 38.5 favorite entering their home game this weekend over Idaho State. That is not such a surprise, but what caught everyone's attention on Tuesday was the fact that Colorado received one vote in the AP Top 25 Weekly College Football Poll. Sam McKewon of the Omaha Worl-Herald voted Colorado as No. 25. Just think, a well-established writer feels that Colorado is among the top 25 college football teams in the Country, impressive. The last time Colorado received any votes: 2008. Here are McKewon's thoughts on why he ranked Colorado where he did: And here we have a controversial pick. CU? The Buffaloes? Which has won 11 games in four years? Yes. Colorado, based on one of the most dominant wins of the weekend, a 44-7 rout of Colorado State. CU outgained CSU by 353 yards, won the turnover battle +2, converted 12 of 19 third downs — this was a good performance. Better than TCU and Pitt — even if both won. If the goal is to reward performance, and not some preconceived notion of goodness, then, through one week, Colorado is a top 25 team to me. They may drop out soon enough. Read more at Omaha.com
2. Did pressure ease off Mike MacIntyre?
Was there pressure on Mike MacIntyre to win entering the 2016 season: Absolutely. Has the pressure gauge been eased up a bit: You bet. You could argue that last Friday's night's victory over Colorado State was MacIntyre's most impressive win as a Coach since taking over Colorado in 2013. What made their 37 point margin of victory even more appealing: the game was on Friday Night on ESPN. Everyone was watching as Colorado looked as if they had arrived, ESPN just released their way to early bowl predictions which have Colorado taking on Texas Tech in the Motel 6 Cactus Bowl. Pressure has been taken off Coach MacIntyre, but the pressure is never gone for a College Football Coach.
3. What is expected from Colorado this weekend?
The Buffs open their first game at Folsom Field this weekend against Idaho State, a D1 FCS program located in Pocatello, Idaho. Last weekend Idaho State routed Canadian Division II Simon Fraser 44-3. Now while the Buffs are huge favorites to blow the Bengals out of the water, anything is possible regarding college football. Coach MacIntyre pointed out during Tuesday's press conference that Idaho State Head Coach Mike Kramer was the Head Coach of Montana State when they beat Colorado at Folsom in 2006. So what is expected besides the obvious drubbing? Continue to execute the offense and defense at a high level, get No. 2's in the game, and once the game is well out of reach, get right into the field room and start game planning for a trip to the Big House to take on Michigan in week 3.

The 3-2-1: What we have learned going into the Idaho State Game
Idaho State is up next, today we continue our weekly game coverage with an opening a 3-2-1 column, as we tell you three things we learned, ask two questions and make one bold prediction.

Early Preview: What to expect when expecting Idaho State
What We Learned
1. The defensive secondary is outstanding: The top unit within Colorado’s defense shined in the opening week under Friday Night Lights against Colorado State, there is no denying that. The defense allowed just 63-yards passing, think about that. That stat alone speaks volumes of the preparation and ability of the defense, but the secondary in general made it difficult for any of Colorado State’s receivers to get open, the Buffs also forced two interceptions. Cornerback Chido Awuzie looked like a true NFL prospect and Safety Tedric Thompson also looked the part along with other secondary players like Afolabi Laguda and Ahkello Witherspoon. Heading into week 2, you can argue that Colorado has the best secondary until all of the PAC 12.
2. Brian Lindgren called a wonderful opening game: We wrote a piece on Colorado’s up-tempo offense after the win over Colorado State and to go along with the new up-tempo look, the play calling by Co-Offensive Coordinator Brian Lindgren last Friday Night was excellent. The Rams sent the blitz, Lindgren was one step ahead with a swing route to Running Back Phillip Lindsay, the Rams were in Zone, Lindgren had Quarterback Sefo Liufau and the receiver unit finding holes on the field to beat Colorado State in every facet of the game. The Buffs racked up 578-yards of offense which was second overall in the PAC 12 behind Cal who had 630-yards against Hawaii. Colorado had 318-yards passing, 260-yards rushing, and Liufau was named on Monday PAC 12 Offensive Player of the Week.
3. Phillip Lindsay is ready to shine: Heading into the game there was a lot of talk, even by our staff that the best running back on the field would be Dalyn Dawkins. Let us apologize on that prediction: Phillip Lindsay of Colorado rose to the occasion and had a memorable performance to kick off the season. On the night he ran for 95-yards, 2 touchdowns, his average per touch was 4.8 yards per carry and he also caught 3 balls for 23-yards. He showed an ability to hit the hole hard and even ran over a few defenders. Last year the most yards Lindsay ran for was 113-yards and 2 touchdowns against Nicholls State. Getting Lindsay touches to the football moving forward is a must.
Two Questions
1. What is the best outcome for Saturday’s home opener? The Buffs opened as a 38.5 favorite against Idaho State, which is credit for their impressive opening season win, but does that provide added pressure going in? While no coaches or players care one bit about a line on a game, the expectations have been set by the team and during a home opener, Colorado Fans are going to want to see these Buffs run away with a victory, which everyone knows they should. The best outcome for the Idaho State game is put the Bengals away early with that up-tempo offense, talking 35 points before half. Next have the defense make another strong statement especially up front in the trenches, but the most important factor of this game: Stay healthy. We all know which team is looming on the schedule after the Bengals: Michigan.
2. How will the Buffs be welcomed during their home opener? Curious to see how the Buffs are welcomed during their first home game of the 2016 season following their 37 point win over Colorado State. Last year their home opener against UMass had just 35,094 fans attend. In 2015 the biggest home crowd was against Oregon when 46,222 attended the Buffs conference opener.
One Prediction
1. Colorado’s defense shines again, Buffs route the Bengals: The defense should be much, much better than Idaho State’s offense thus creating multiple opportunities for the Colorado offense to put a ton of points on the board. Do not be surprised to see Colorado hang 50 points or more on the Bengals.

Coach Mike Kramer on win over Simon Fraser
"Really a fairly convincing effort, I wouldn't call it dominant. A lot of errors, a lot of inexperience on our offensive line that showed up a lot. Their defensive line got after our quarterback pretty good and we had too many turnovers at quarterback. Our defense played outstanding. We gave them some bad field position and looked like they were going to keep it to zero then we fumbled again. Really good job by Simon Fraser. I think he knows guys are learning how to play and he's got a great base of experience in the CFL. He'll do fine at Simon Fraser."Quote provided by ISUBengals.com
