The Pac-12 in general doesn't play a killer schedule in out-of-conference games this year. Looking at the schedule, however, there are chances for a number of upsets to out-of-conference teams. Here are some thoughts:
  • Colorado and Washington will not be upset in out-of-conference play this year. Both teams will be 3-0 when they meet in Boulder on September 23rd.
  • If there's to be major upset with a Pac-12 team playing out-of-conference, look to these two games -- Stanford at San Diego State and UCLA at Memphis.
  • Stanford will have just played away at USC, and has the SD State game sandwiched between the Trojans and UCLA. It's an away game against a team that's one of the better MWC outfits and one that'll see the whole affair as a "super bowl."
  • As for UCLA, they'll be playing in Memphis at 9:00 am Pacific time against a very good team. The Bruins, badly coached as usual, may already have a loss to A&M, and will be thinking ahead to the following week at Stanford.
  • Two other games stand out where Pac-12 teams better be on their toes or they could get caught -- they are USC at Notre Dame, and Oregon at Wyoming.
  • USC will take the Domers seriously, no doubt, but Brian Kelly's job may be on the line, and ND certainly has the talent to win at home. Notre Dame neatly scheduled a bye for the week before, so they should be prepared, rested, and recovered from injuries.
  • Oregon at Wyoming should, on paper, be a laugher, but stranger things have happened. The Pokes are getting better and the Ducks may be recovering from their outing against Nebraska the week before. Oregon better take this game seriously.
Anyone else have thoughts on how the Pac-12 will fare in out-of-conference play this fall?
