While I know that this tends to be a mildly sensitive subject on this board, I thought this was a conerning sign for the future. A high profile rookie quiting due to head injuries should make headlines. I am glad to see Borland made a decision that is the best for him, but it doesn't bode well for the future of football. The NFL needs to fix this and fast. Having studied wave propagation (think impact) and biological materials for a while now, including an extensive review of TBI publications, this isn't unexpected. Knowing the research (and researchers) currently investigating helmets is (are) woefully uncapable, the NFL needs to admit there is a problem and work quickly to solve. Sad to see a young player leave the game, but glad to see him get out before he ends up like Jim McMahon. The PR is only going to get worse. As someone who loves football, I hope the powers-that-be will be proactive rather than the converse they have been thus far. Times are a changin... The NFL (and NCAA) need to be a part of forward thinking, so football has long term future.
