In the news today, UK's Calipari defends his use of one-and-dones (what else could he say?). He's doing these poor players a service, and look at the results, NBA all-stars, so many of them. He also takes special pride in offering them "lifetime scholarships" but somehow fails to mention how many of the prized one-and-done student-athletes return to scholarly Lexington to gain their cherished bachelors degree.
From my perspective, one of two things needs to happen. Either let the basketball players be drafted right out of high school ala baseball, or have them make a serious effort toward progressing for a college degree for a couple of years, like football. The most laughable part of Kentucky's program is the claim that these hoops players are somehow "students". That stretches reality more than SEC football ever will.
