Texas guard RJ Jones has put together a strong showing in the summer live period, and it has led to a few new offers this week. The four-star prospect from Plano is playing on the Nike EYBL circuit, and his latest performance helped spark some programs to enter the mix. A top-75 recruit, Jones is hardly an unknown but he has gone through some ebbs and flows with his production this offseason. He is on an upward trajectory again, and this week it has led to new offers from Colorado, Oklahoma and Notre Dame. One bonus for the Buffs is that Jones will soon be living a lot closer than his current home in the DFW. He's making the move to Wasatch Academy in Utah for his senior season, and that is after already having a lot of interest in the Pac-12 previously.
Jones took an official visit to Cal earlier in the year and is definitely intrigued by the chance to play out west. He's definitely a scoring guard, but there is some point guard to his game. It's not what he does best, but he could certainly handle the ball for stretches at the next level. I watched him last month, and there is a lot of upside to his game. He also comes from a good family situation and is overall a high-character person in addition to being a top-75 basketball prospect.
When he's aggressive and taking charge in a game he is at his best but there were moments when I watched him last month when he allowed himself to fall into the background a bit. That seems to not be the case the last couple weeks, and that's positive for his future. His bread and butter is going to be his ability to hit shots from outside. When he's locked in from deep it really makes him a much different player. I do think CU will have a chance here. I'm working to check in with him and get a feel for where things stand with the Buffs after this new offer, and I'll be sure to keep you all posted.
