After watching last night's practice, I came away with a feeling of exuberance. Our staff is solid. They are excellent coaches and have very organized practices. They know how to integrate some fun activities with monotonous drills. They challenge players at every opportunity. They teach fundamentals and encourage players to do better and correct them when they fail.
Also, each coach that came by the onlookers, took time to talk to folks and made everyone feel welcome to the practice.
What a change from Embree's practices where players were scrutinized, cursed at, and sometimes humiliated. Not all of Embree's coaches were this crude, but I heard vulgar comments coming from enough of his staff to question why he let this go on. I even remember some of his staff cursing each other out during practice.
So, last night was a class act. Much professionalism and much coaching going on! I sure hope this approach gets us in the win column as I would hate to see this staff lose their jobs. Wins matter and we have a huge investment in this program, but I think we now have the right personnel to take us to the next level.
