September 7th - Practice Report:
BOULDER-- After Tuesday’s press conference it was made known that the Buffs are going to treat Idaho State like any other team this weekend. As always they are trying to go 1-0 this week just like did last week against Colorado State.
They will look toward their veteran leaders this Saturday to continue the momentum.
"The culture is too work hard, they understand hard work makes a difference, they're learning that and they know that so theres a good leadership out of the older guys that come ready to go."
Idaho State's offense is going to try to get the ball out quick aganist Colorado's defense, they threw the ball 40 times in their game last weekend.
"We have got to harass their quarterback, they do a lot of quick throws so they'll do that and get some off but hopefully our guys can have a tight enough of coverage at times and make the guy go to his second read and hold it a little bit but we do need to get after their passer for sure."
The guys that are going to be able to do that Saturday should be Jimmie Gilbert and Derek McCartney, the two were number one and number two in sacks last season.
"We've been working on them having to tip some passes with their quick passing game there's no doubt about that so we hope to get a few tips but its going to be mainly pushing the pocket and making the guy feel pressure too, not only do you hit him but you make him feel the pressure and hurry up the timing."
We saw last week how effective Colorado was using a fast tempo pace and that has been benefitting the defense during practice.
"It helps us stay in excellent shape, it also makes our defense have to communicate really well and quickly, we've done it before but we've even done it more now. We've cut down our signals on defense to quicker signals and we have multiple signals on that also to make sure nobody else is stealing our signals but we have to go quick with that."
If the Buffs can rack up the points on Saturday we should be able to see some of the second stingers in action, guys like Kyle Evans who ran for a touchdown Friday night and possibly Steven Montez.
"He's full of character, he's full of life and he's a really good football player and he's going to keep playing a lot of football for us, he made some nice runs on the drive there and he did well on special teams, I'm excited about Kyle, it was fun watching him score there's no doubt," Coach MacIntyre on Kyle Evans.
"Steven had an excellent spring and he did really well in the fall, so that's where he sits right now. They both did well but Steven is a little bit ahead at this point the way we see it but games change things, hopefully we don't have to see to many of backups this year, hopefully at quarterback," Coach MacIntyre on the competition between Montez and Jordan Gehrke.
Idaho State will be a good game for the Buffs to fine tune everything aspect before they head to Michigan.

September 6th - Tuesday's Press Conference:
Coach MacIntyre:
**"They've been focused, there working hard, Tuesday practices are always tough cause you put the pads back on and you go at it but we got a lot accomplished today in practice and the guys that were beat up a little bit they've all been getting in the training room being very conscious of doing that and they are being observant in the meetings, all that type of stuff tells you that they are ready to go, they got to keep pushing, keep pushing."
**"All we have to do is tell them that the head coach Mike Kramer coach of Idaho State was the head coach of Montana State when they beat Colorado here and we've already showed them that game, showed them some highlights of it and everything, make sure they understand he's a heck of a coach, he's won everywhere he's been, he's not afraid of coming in here I know that."
**"We've implemented a couple of things that help us go a little faster, communication and signal wise and our kids are in excellent shape and keep pushing at it so we kind of get the rhythm going there. It's all about getting that first, first down, everybody always says that and thats the truth."
**"I've said that since day one, leadership is good, we got so many experienced guys, guys that have been through the battle and the work ethic and they understand you have to show up everyday to improve and to keep going. Yeah I have seen a difference, they got to just keep doing it but I've been very pleased with our leadership."
**"We're gonna try to go at a fast pace and if were able to move the ball on the opponent and keep it going with the speed, we'll definitely want to keep doing that."
**"We ran up tempo last year were just more effective, we completed more balls, we had more runs that hit, we were more precise in our blocking, more precise in our routes, we just kept improving."
**"I saw his dad at our stampede we have the night before the game and he came up to me and said hi, I talk to him, he was all excited, thanked me and I said no your son earned it there wasn't anything given to him, he's a really good football player." On Kyle Evans.
**"Chido is an excellent player, he can do so many things and he just needs to keep playing, keep going. He's very versatile, I don't think I've been around one as versatile as him that can play all three spots and you don't even blink. You move the guy there and he's the best one out there on both sides of the field at whatever position you put him at it seems like."
"There offense if just like Hawaii's was last year that gave us problems, defensively they run a 4-3 defense so we will have to get ready for that, they play wide ends like Oregon State use to do, so that will affect our tackles on pass protection, so we're going to have to really do well there."
Sefo Liufau:
**"For the most part we played really well, I think there were a couple of drives where we stopped ourselves, a couple of mistakes here and there, a penalty, some fumbles which is pretty frustrating so we want to improve on that this week but I think overall as offense we did very well."
**"Definitely not cocky, I think that after being in the program for three years where you're in a lot of close games or you're not winning games you get into this mindset of not wanting to give anything up and thats definitely the mindset of this team going into this week. We don't want to give any games away, we don't want to have any close games if possible. We treat Idaho State with the highest respect, they are a great team."
**"I think the goal ultimately is to execute and if we execute and build upon what we did last week, I think that will take care of itself and other guys will come in and play"
**"Offensive line played very well last week, I know we had one sack which is normal, you're not always going to have your best play but for the most part they did really well, I'm pretty sure we had a lot of running yards, I can't really put my finger on how much we had but they did really well up there, they gave me time to throw back in the pocket."
Chidobe Awuzie:
**"The mindset is still the same, we still only have one goal and that is to be PAC 12 champions, I think we've been upfront with that since the beginning, we definitely needed to get a victory at Colorado State and that was a great team but now we got to be on to the next one and try to go 1-0 this week."
**"We still only have one goal, Colorado State was kind of a speed bump to that goal I would say they are definitely a great team and we went 1-0 that week and were trying to go 1-0 this week, its just the same mindset, even keel knowing everyone on this team is pretty humble and Coach Mac honestly stressed that to us yesterday, talked about being humble. Were still hungry and were still humble you know we still have a lot of work to do to turn this program around."
**"Definitely communication is always number one, technique number two definitely two things you can always get better at, the DB's were the ones that gave up that touchdown, it's on a pass play, definitely got to sure up the communication on that play and I think we'll be fine, we have a bunch of leaders and a bunch of seniors in our defensive secondary, so I feel like if we just keep communicating and get our technique better we'll be fine."

Bryce Bobo Looks to Continue to Grow at Receiver
BOULDER- Throughout the past few years Bryce Bobo's intention and drive have come into question by many people. Does he have the determination to be the number two receiver when Nelson Spruce leaves? Does he have what it takes to compete at a PAC 12 level?
Well all those questions were answered Friday night when Bobo put on a show for his teammates, coaches and fans. Bobo had five receptions for 99 yards, with his longest being a SportsCenter Top 10 catch down the sideline for 46 yards.
After fellow receiver Shay Fields burned Colorado State's secondary on his 61 yard reception the Rams seemed to have turned their attention to Fields leaving Bobo with one-on-one coverage for the rest of the game and he was ready to step up to the plate especially after Juwann Winfree went down early in the season.
"Me and Juwann were fighting for the one spot and the fact that he went down, it was an easier transition for me to just know that I was going to be playing a lot more and take that starting spot."
There's no question that the Buffs are filled with talented receivers and everyone of them made plays during Friday nights game. Like Coach MacIntyre always says players make plays and players win games, Bryce Bobo agrees with that.
"Every single one of receivers are great receivers, Devin's a speedster, his catching improved over the course of the camp and into the game, and Shay of course is just doing what Shay does, he's always going to make plays and Jay is a hard worker. So we just have different guys that can always contribute no matter what goes down."
Between Bobo, Fields, Ross and MacIntyre the boys combined for 283 yards of the Buffs 318 total. Not only did they get open and make big plays but they also contributed in other ways aside from making big catches.
"We worked as a cohesive group, we had an overall good game as a receiving core, we were blocking down field which we take a lot of pride in, we were catching and we were just making plays."
"We have too, especially with the type of tempo we have if we can gash teams on the perimeters or get to the safeties and help our running backs hit the holes with their defense not being set up, it's just going to make our offense a lot better and more efficient," Bobo who had a massive block during the game allowing Ross to get in the end zone.
This weekend the Buffs with play 4-3 defense in Idaho State and will look to rack up massive amounts of yards against them also.
"We haven't really talked about it too much but Coach Chiv is stressing that we really just need to focus on us and not focus on the other team and do what we need to do because our offense has to speak for itself,” Bobo on what the receivers need to work on for next game.
Bobo should his intention and drive Friday night against the Rams and will look to do that for the rest of the season.

Monday Practice Report
BOULDER-- After coming away with a dominating win over Colorado State, Friday night the Buffs now turn to their newest opponent Idaho State.
After practice Coach MacIntyre was asked about his thoughts on how the game went Friday.
"We played really hard, we made quite a few mistakes and we could have done some other things better but I thought the kids played extremely hard, they came out fast and furious and stayed after it, I was pleased with that. It was exciting to watch them play for the first time live."
There are still things that need to be done in order for this team to compete against high level opponents in the PAC 12, liking holding onto the rock, especially during big plays.
"We didn't make bunch of critical mistakes, we missed a thing here and missed a thing there type thing. We did not hold onto the ball like I would like, two of them were Sefo, which he's got to work on, thats really the first time he's been hit in a long time and then Phillip fumbled one on the spin move and the other one he was already down, that's something that we don't do, so we'll be better at that.
Quarterback Sefo Liufau threw for 318 yards (23-33) and ran for 72 yards and was named PAC 12 offensive player of the week after his performance Friday night.
"He played really well, you're always wanting them to be perfect, he had a couple throws that if he would have made those we would have had a couple more touchdowns but that happens, but he made a lot of plays too. Got us into a lot of the right situations, made some good checks and I was pleased with the way he played, coming back off the foot, I thought he did an excellent job. He's got some room to improve like you always do."
"We talked about sliding, he slide early in the first half so we talked about it, he couldn't see the down and distance marker cause he was right down in the middle of the field and he goes man I'm faster than I use to be, I didn't know I had covered that much grass," Coach MacIntyre said with a chuckle.
Most people are wondering what happened to Alex Kelley and Tedric Thompson during the game, it looked like both sustained injuries but Coach MacIntyre is confident that they will both play this weekend against the Bengals.
"Alex hurt his ankle a little bit, he was out here today, Tedric fell and got whiplash neck, he'll be back out tomorrow, so far he's passed all the concussion protocol, he looks like he'll be fine. As of today it looks like they will both play."
With the Colorado State game behind them the team is now looking to go 1-0 every week. Every week is a new opponent and a new week to win.
"I did not say that to them so that's them saying it. I had said it in the past but I hadn't said it yet so I heard them saying it so I didn't have to say anything which is the way you want it," on the players taking a big leadership role this season.
The first game of the season in Folsom takes place Saturday against an Idaho State team who beat Division II Simon Fraser on Saturday 44-3, racking up 543 total offensive yards.
"I've watched just last night, all night and of corse Saturday, they throw the ball really well, it's a lot like Hawaii's offense last year, basically it's the same offense and the offensive corrdnaitor from there had gone to Hawaii. They got some good receivers, quarterback knows what he is doing with the football. Defensively they are a true 4-3 football team, a little bit more like Oregon State use to be about two years ago. They're going to try to get after our passer and cause some havoc to our tackles."
Coach MacIntyre will hold his weekly press conference tomorrow to talk more about Idaho State and what they Buffs need to do to continue progressing forward
