Last season, cornerback Trey Udoffia had to fill some pretty big shoes replacing NFL talent.

He had some great moments during the year but also, teams picked on him often as he played opposite of Isaiah Oliver, who was selected in the second round of the NFL Draft earlier this year.

"He really played well for us at different times last year," Colorado Buffaloes head coach Mike MacIntyre said.

Udoffia has been nicked up a little bit during fall camp, but he's back full strength now.

"The last three practices, he's really done well," said MacIntyre. "He was slowed down a bit early with a small injury that held him out for a few days, but the last few days he's played really well. He's a big corner who's athletic. I'm looking for him to make plays for us this year."

Once again, Udoffia has big shoes to fill with Oliver off to the Atlanta Falcons, but the Buffs' cornerback corps may be deeper than it was a season ago. Dante Wigley should be improved from last season, Chris Miller has a lot of talent as a redshirt freshman, and junior college transfer Delrick Abrams Jr. is solid.

"They're good players," MacIntyre said. "They'll be able to rotate in and out and be able to do good things for us."

Expect Abrams Jr., Miller, Udoffia, and Wigley all to see the field a lot this season.

"The way the ball is thrown these days with so many deep routes, you have to be able to sub some corners in to match the offense," said MacIntyre.

Lewis full-time at outside linebacker?

During a fall camp scrimmage open to the public, Drew Lewis was seen at outside linebacker, rather than playing his JACK inside 'backer spot from last season.

The move was well received, as Nate Landman is a stud, and the move allows him to start at Lewis' old JACK linebacker spot. Of Landman, Lewis, and Rick Gamboa, the player who's best suited to be able to play outside linebacker is Lewis. His speed and skill set makes sense at OLB.

It seems that Lewis' move to outside linebacker is all but official.

"It's a little bit different going from inside linebacker to outside linebacker, but at the same time, there are some similarities," Lewis said. "I've been able to adapt pretty well, make some plays on the edge, and I'm enjoying it a lot."

The Buffs are loaded at outside linebacker. Davion Taylor will play the BUFF, Carson Wells and Jacob Callier have big time potential, and Nu'umoto Falo Jr. is a guy not to forget.

"The outside linebacker core is looking pretty stacked," said Lewis. "We have some good talent -- Davion [Taylor] coming in, I'm trying to make some plays on the outside, and we have plenty of depth. It's going to be lethal."

Lewis is just ready to take on Colorado State in a little over a week.

"I think we're all ready to hit someone else other than are teammates," he said. "We're going to come out flying against CSU."

Quick Hitters

-- Air quality can be a problem at this time of the year, and the Buffs' staff is making sure to monitor it and make sure there are no issues.

-- MacIntyre was asked if he pays attention to news around the Pac-12. He noted that he only focuses on the team he has next on the schedule.

"I have not read anything," MacIntyre said "Honestly. I've been in a submarine and we're just trying to work on us. I'm worried about this team and CSU. Now, I've looked at stuff on CSU, but I haven't looked on anybody else."
