Tonight’s National Championship was a clear display of how far dominant Offensive & Defensive Linemen can take a team.
This game featured Washington, with great skill players and very good Linemen vs. Michigan, with Dominant Linemen and very good skill players
Oversimplification, for sure. However, the Huskies couldn’t run the ball, and, despite having arguably the best quarterback in the country, as well as two top 10 receivers, Penix had trouble throwing downfield. While Michigan has a fine, defensive backfield, husky receivers were creating separation throughout the entire game. IMHO, Washington’s offensive troubles started with Michigan’s stellar front seven, and ended with Michigan, forcing Penix to move, throw off balance, and take hits with the Wolverines primarily using a four man rush.
On offense, Michigan’s offensive line manhandled Washington defenders in the first and fourth quarters. Michigan ran the ball for over 300 yards and four TDs. J J McCarthy is a terrific quarterback, but he didn’t have to win the game for his team. The Husky defense couldn’t do enough against Michigan’s offensive line to make McCarthy uncomfortable.

As I watched this game, I couldn’t help but think how awesome CU could be if they had an offensive line even close to the caliber of Michigan. Shedeur Sanders, Dylan Edwards, McCaskil, and the current stable of receivers would be lighting up the scoreboard.

For me, tonight‘s national championship game further solidified, conventional wisdom that championship football is won in the trenches!

I’m hoping CU can land two more top quality interior D-Linemen, two more blue-chip LBs ( one inside, one outside ), two high impact Defensive Ends/ Edge Rushers, one stud Center, one mauler at guard, and one or two proven OTs.

That isn’t too much to ask is it ?
