With schools looking at doing things like CU wanting a spring game against another school and conferences looking at different "conference title games weekend" formats, here is how the NCAA (Created by the schools and having the power the schools give them). The SEC commish is on the committee, maybe be the chair, that is looking at the changes listed below:

The NCAA FBS governance model is undergoing significant changes, with proposals for a new structure that includes an FBS Football Governing Board, potentially granting more autonomy to FBS conferences and institutions, and emphasizing student-athlete voice and well-being.

Here's a more detailed look at the proposed changes and the current governance structure:

Current Governance Structure:
-NCAA Board of Governors: The highest governing body, focusing on strategic direction and the overall well-being of student-athletes.
-Division I Council: Responsible for day-to-day management and policy-making within Division I.
-Division I Committees: Handle specialized areas like championships, academics, and enforcement.
-Autonomy: The "five autonomy conferences" (Atlantic Coast, Big Ten, Big 12, and Southeastern) have the ability to create their own rules in specific areas within Division I.

Proposed Changes & New Governance Model:
FBS Football Governing Board:

A new board, primarily comprised of football-knowledgeable individuals, with representatives from FBS conferences, the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), and independent directors (including former FBS student-athletes).

Expanded Conference Influence:
The proposed model aims to give FBS conferences and their member institutions more influence and leadership on matters directly addressing student-athlete well-being.
Student-Athlete Voice:

Emphasis on including student-athletes in decision-making processes.

Streamlined Decision-Making:

The goal is to create a more nimble and responsive governance structure, potentially empowering lower-ranking officials to make decisions, allowing the NCAA to react to changes more quickly.
Potential for a Separate FBS Division:

Some proposals suggest forming a new, separate NCAA division for FBS institutions and conferences, grouping together institutions with similar resources and facing similar issues.
Focus on Student-Athlete Well-being:

The new model aims to prioritize the health, safety, and overall well-being of student-athletes.

Revenue Distribution:
The Knight Commission has urged the NCAA to eliminate the exemption allowing FBS football to count in the revenue distribution formula, because the sport does not meet the qualifying criterion—namely, that the NCAA operate a sport's postseason championship.
