Buffs were picked 5th in the Pac 12 poll which is as high as they've been picked in a while. The usual stalwarts Stanford and UCLA were 1 and 2. WSU a surprising 3rd as I don't recall them being rated that high too often, but that's a school that does well with Euro transfers in all sports. USC, per usual, in the top 5 at #4 with usual suspect Cal at #6. Typically tough UW down at 7, closely followed by Oregon, then Utah.
CU has an unusually deep team this year. Got an absolute gift when Civanna Kuhlmann decided she could play this year and transferred to CU. That's an all conference caliber forward and former Stanford star on our already strong front line. Added their best recruiting class in years with 3 players capable of being in the rotation if not the starting line up. Former Legacy super star Julianna Hayward scored 1 of the team's 5 goals in the season opening win over Weber State, a team they beat just 1-0 a year ago.
Last year's team would have gone to the tourney had it not been for CSU forfeiting the delayed match early in the season last year. I will forever hope CSU goes winless after that stunt. This year's team seems far deeper. Center-back Hannah Cardenas is healthy finally. The rest of the team seems healthy and strong. Goal keeping should be excellent, the defense with Sharts, Miranda, and Cardenas seems like it should be better than ever. The front line with James, Webb, and Kuhlmann will be as nasty as it's been in a while. If the mid field with Hayward and Co. can improve, this team has a shot to do something special it would seem.
This should be CU's best team this fall. Maybe Women's Cross Country as well, but CU's soccer team should be great this year.
