Regardless of its weakling athletic reputation, could bringing in Rice actually strengthen the conference? If each Pac 12 member’s AD budget is 1-3 percent of the entire school’s budget would a major academic school like Rice rise the academic profile for all conference members much like Stanford has done for the original conference schools?
