The Mexican fighter will meet his division rival in an undisputed battle, pitting his WBA, WBC and WBO titles against the Cuban star's IBF crown he earned last year.
Canelo could have mounted a defence of all four belts himself had he chosen Scull as his opponent nine months prior, but instead vacated the latter crown to his rival.

Now, he will bid to bring them all together once again in his first fight of a blockbuster 2025 - but his opponent will have plenty to say about stopping him in his tracks.

DAZN News has everything you need to know ahead of Canelo Alvarez against William Scull.

Canelo Alvarez vs William Scull form and history

Canelo Alvarez and William Scull both enter into their highly anticipated bout knowing that legacy is on the line as they battle for an undisputed title.

The former is considered one of the greatest fighters of his generation for his reason, with a formidable record that includes only two losses - against a pair of other greats in Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Dmitry Bivol.

Yet there have been questions over whether he is coming to the end of his reign at the summit of the sport, with Scull arguably the toughest test he has booked in years.

The Cuban arrives with an undefeated record, and after he was denied an immediate shot at the undisputed crown last year, duly secured his IBF crown in robustly impressive fashion.

Both men posted unanimous decision victories in their last encounters, but Scull was the one that arguably looked like he had more to give rather than Canelo.

Throw in the fact that the latter will step out of his Las Vegas comfort zone for this latest battle, and there is plenty of fascination to be found in this matchup.

What has been said?

Canelo previously suggested he was up for a new challenge, and in stepping away from his traditional stronghold of Mexico and Las Vegas, he finds himself on new ground.

"I feel great," he said on his bout. "That motivates myself, fighting in another country. I feel great about it. This fight is very important to me. I never take anything easy."

Scull meanwhile previously told a press conference in March that he was ready for his shot against one of the all-time greats and believed he could find a way to win.

“I feel real good right now,” he said. "I rely on my fundamentals and I prepare really well in a dignified way for all my fights.”
