Dorrell on how he profiles the Aztecs:
“I think San Diego State — they’ve done really, really well. When Rocky Long was the head coach and I know Brady Hoke’s the head coach now — but they’ve always been very good defensively. They’ve always had very good offenses that ran the ball well and had really good backs. They play hard and have done a great job in all their phases. This (2020 Aztecs) team is definitely reminiscent of all the teams that I’ve seen for at least the last four of five years."
"I know that the quarterback, Lucas Johnson is a pretty good athlete...he’s definitely a guy that we have to make sure we do a good job of containing. He throws the ball well — he had a couple of go routes and stuff. I know the other quarterback is just as productive. We don’t know the combination of both of them; we might see Lucas, might see the other one, so we’re not sure."
"In such a short period of time, we’re trying to put together a great plan to defense regardless who the quarterback is. It’s definitely a challenge for us but I know our players are working hard and getting ready to go play ball.”
Dorrell on how he's scheming Colorado's game plan:
“We’ve got to do the things we do well. You always start there and continue to build on some things. There are some things that we had in the game plan for most of this week that we were doing for our planning for USC. We’re going to try to continue to utilize a lot of those things. It’s one of those games where we’re going to have to make some adjustments along the way, given the shortness of the matchup — mostly from our side. Think on their side, they’ve had more days to do some prep for us."
"But we’ll have to do some great in-game adjustments and move forward. But we have to go into this type of contest having a good foundation of what we want to do from a scheme standpoint and from a preparation and game planning standpoint. But I know we’ll probably have to do some adjustments with what we see.”
