Big Ten commish Jim Delany on satellite camps: "Coaches coaching at camps doesn't strike me as a bad practice."
Delany says any national discussion about satellite camps should also include a look at oversigning, grayshirting & "flipping" recruits.
Now, the first two practices, oversigning and grayshirting, are, right or wrong, generally associated with the SEC. That third one, flipping recruits? That’s a national phenomenon that knows no conference boundaries. From an article published in January of this year:
“This year is more than it ever has been,” Rivals.com national analyst Mike Farrell told the Detroit Free Press when it came to the subject of flipping recruits. “Every year it gets worse. Kids are pressured into committing early. A lot of (it is) the junior days and the ability to take (five) official visits. And the pressure coaches put on to join now or lose the spot, it makes a lot of the kids want to get the decision over with, knowing that they can always change their mind. Commit, and then if you want to take visits later, go do it.”
